Intakes....

I had a quick question I hope that this does not stir up the forum but I will do my best to word it properly. I am trying to figure out which is the best cold air intake. What is the difference between the different ones? Should I put a K&N filter in or just leave it as is. The only performance mod I have is glass packs which just makes my truck real loud. I have a 4.6 4x4. Please help.

HE HAS THE 4.6 meaning the 5.4 intake is irrelevant

The 4.6 stock intake design is actually not bad at all with the filter and rubber flex tube being the only drawbacks. A simple drop in filter would gain results without spending a fortune. If you would like to upgrade the whole system consider sticking with volant as their system is NOT an open system but still gains the same results as the open ones. (less worry of hydro-lock, debrits, etc...) Because you do have a 4x4 vehicle, but granted i dont know how you use it.

honestly though, what are you paying for. Those things are like $250+ and some are pretty but you could probably fab something for like 50 bucks. I mean is there some kinda special plastic of alum. they use that makes it work so good. Just wondering.

You're paying for R&D and a host of other things.

I'd rather pay someone for a medication that has been tried and is tested true rather than someone walking up to me at Home Depot telling me that this will cure my chest cold.

If it were that easy there'd only be one on the market. After you gather all your info it's still going to come down to personal preference.

Some are definitely better than other hp & torque wise but mainly you don’t want to get a POS that runs you lean on the new 3-valve that all.

I think what it comes down to is a culmination of the following:

* Price
* Looks
* Preference
* R&D
* Reputation

I went with the Volant based on looks & reputation. I figured that the R&D was inherent, and it was. As far as price, I did not care - it was what I wanted, so I shopped & scored it for about $230...

i went with the volant as well (5.4) simply because it blends under the hood, looks stock, has its own airbox to prevent hot air, and i shopped around and got it for $200

on my friends 4.6 we just chopped up the stock airbox, and put a drop in filter in, doesnt really NEED any more than that, but if you got the cash, why not!

If you got the 5.4L 3-valve, the Air Force One gives you the MOST hp & torque gain; assuming that’s what you’re trying to achieve.
Power gains from this kit are approximately 25 HP at the rear wheels on the 3-valve 5.4L V8 motors at just 3000 rpm!

Airforce One Performance Intakes are designed from the ground up for absolute performance, quality and longevity. These systems use aviation grade stainless steel polished to a mirror finish that will never rust or corrode regardless of the climate the system is exposed to. Custom designed and molded Hi-Temp stabilized composite adapter boots, couplings and MAS airflow venturi adapters are used. The venturi adapter generates a high vacuum in the filter enabling the filter to draw a higher volume of air while naturally lowering the ambient incoming air temperature by several degrees, eliminating the need to enclose the filter in a box and substantially increasing horsepower. The Power Stack Filters are sized to each system and carry a lifetime warranty.

2nd plug from jpdadeo for the AF1. Hmm.

Honestly, if you take your truck wheeling the best intake right now is the Volant simply because it is still a closed box design.
