Running Board Suggestions

I am really thinking of removing these all together, but I find myself using them even more now that I have a leveling kit. Would stainless nerf bars look ok? Or just go with nothing? I don't want my truck to look to busy.
Any help?

IMO those look like a "running board" type set up, which I don't like. I would go with some kind of nerf bar setup because they look better. Its only what you like better if you want chrome or the black, but I would get the nerf bars. I thought about taking them off of my truck, but since everyone else is shorter than me and uses them everytime they get in the truck, I keep them on there. Oh yea, and I have the factory chrome nerf bars. Good luck.

I chose the "running boards" for several reasons:

1) I think they blend in with the truck well, and do not look busy.
2) They protect the bottom paint from road debris, where nerf bars really do not.
3) I use them as a step for washing the roof, and I can step anywhere along the board without slipping.
4) They are much easier for kids or older folks. The entire board is a step, not just one or two isolated patches.
5) They don't rust.

What he said. Also with bars it is easy for a child or older person to slip and have their foot go between the body and the bar. When I put my boards on a few months after getting the truck I was amazed at the paint damage already present on the rocker panels. It looked like you shot them with a shotgun. I spent more time touching up the chips than I did bolting on the boards.

I think a set of chrome nerf bars would look much better. I think the chrome would tie in nice with the bumpers and wheels.

stjones,

The nerf step bars don't offer any protection for the rocker panels except where they turn in to the mounting brackets. I would stay with some type of platform running boards, maybe some wheel to wheel type bright aluminum or something. Keep us posted on whatever you get and don't forget the pics.

Hasn't been a problem for me and we have some crappy roads.

If anyone would like a set of stock plastic running boards (black) E-mail me at mwheue@comcast.net . Pics are in my gallery of these boards on my truck. I am changing to chrome nurf bars.
