Ok, so I have the Superchips 1745 tuner. For the first several drives after installing a tune (any tune), the truck responds very snappy. I consider this to be a very good thing; When I press the gas, it immediately gets up & goes... However, after several driving cycles, it tames down significantly. It seems that the more I drive it, the harder I have to press on the accelerator to get the same results.

Why is this, and more importantly, how can I avoid this? I understand that the PCM adapts to your individual driving habits, but how do I get it to adapt in a 'snappy' way? I've tried several things already: I've tried driving it like a madman, like an old lady, and just normal... But no matter how I drive it (after re-tuning) it always seems to go back to being a slug.

What to do???

 

huge falecey that it adapts to "your" habbits; its merely adapting to the environment

the steadier you drive the quicker the pcm will apapt to everything, so in other words driving faster will only prolong the learning time

I am really thinking of going the 1745 route instead of the Xcal2. I think for what I want a tuner for I don't need a full blown custom job. Keep me uptodate on how its doing. Are you noticing different gas mileage? Even though the snappyness is wearing off, does it still feel a lot better than stock?
What tune are you running the lower or higher octane tune?

 

Ok, so how can I prevent it from becoming less responsive once it adapts?



As far a gas mileage, yes, it probably gets slightly better MPG's, but it quickly fades away because I constantly want to use that extra power I use the 91 Performance Tune. And yes, I can still notice a difference even after the PCM 'adapts'. However, it is a little disappointing that one week it is awesome, and the next week it feels a little weaker (still better than stock).

 

From everything I’ve read about adaptive strategy, it’s a lot to do about nothing and doesn’t make that big a difference. It constantly (quickly) changes its strategy to “the moment” and doesn’t add up to any significant power loss or gain at WOT

 

The dealer said they re-flashed my PCM, I can feel a difference. It layed a LIGHT patch for about 15" on both sides but then again I have these wide 33s on here too so it'd probally be better with stock tires.

 

I have the 1745 also with the 91 tune and have not noticed this adaptive thing at all. I think the 1745 is a great deal for the dollar and like Thrill Racing said, I don't need a full blown custom tune. I am very happy with the Superchips tuner and yes it does get slightly better mileage but it usually gets offset by my heavy foot and me going YEEHAA
