How to tell if work was done?

Hey everyone,

I took my truck into the dealer yesterday to see if i could get my pcm reflashed to help out with the throttle lag since my truck was built in the effected date range, and i could feel the lag really badly,

Anyways i took it in and desribed basically what the tsb said, so they said they would take a look at it. The service manager called me up about 3 hours later and told me there was a TSB out for both my issues (Um funny haha) and he was saying hows its funny because it almost matches word for word what i said was wrong..

Anyways they printed out the TSB and left a copy of it on my dash so i could see it.

However when i was driving home i couldnt really tell a difference. Is there any way to check if the work was actully done? I though i saw somthing about a sticker under the hood,

or did this change rpm shifts at all or anything that i could use to tell if it was updated?

Thanks,
NIck

Everytime i have taken my truck in, i get a yellow copy of the work order that states what they did and how long it took them, including the parts they used. I also had my pcm reflashed, but they did not put a sticker on the computer module which is located under the hood against the passenger firewall.

When the pcm was reflashed on my 04, the dealer put a sticker over the core support with the date and update version.

The transmission should have to relearn your driving habits. I was able to tell they did mine immediatly. Truck drove completely different. More pep, and a firmer shift into o/d. Really made my truck more fun to drive, and no more lag or hesitation. One difference with mine, when they started it, their computer locked up after clearing my truck computer, so my truck was disabled. They had to keep it overnight, gave me a loaner off the used lot. So I knew they had done something, they would not have gone to so much trouble.

Sticker required!

Whenever a PCM reflash is done I believe the sticker is required as part of the emission requirement, especially in Claifornia. When I got my first reflash due to the same throttle lag TSB I could not find the sticker at first under the hood. Well, it was "Under" the hood, or look up with the hood open!

So if the dealer really did the work then the sticked is supposed to be there. If not go back and demand it. I gave the service rep a copy of the TSB when I asked for the fix. He was a bit surprised and then asled me "do you have this problem?" I just smiled and said, "Yes".

I had gotten the first PCM reflash in my Troyer Stage I package and had to return to stock to get my Xcal tunes. The only way to do that was a trip to the dealer and with the help of that TSB it went ok. They never noticed the PCM retune I had to begin with.

I am not sure if it is required in PA. I have no sticker under the hood anywere. I had my computer reflashed several months ago to fix the ambient temp problem. I did not notice a difference is throttle lag. I had my truck at the dealer this morning and they gave me the product code of my flash and state that I have the newest code and still have throttle lag. I code number is different then the one that is on the PCM... Oh well.. I have my order is with Troyer.

It's a Federal Law that mandates they document if they make any changes to the emmision systems, on any vehicle, in any state.

The sticker should be there. Mine is on my grille beauty shield and I also had my SVT Focus reprogrammed and it was in the same spot. It says something like PCM and gives a part number.

When i got my truck badk i notcied that my Trip odometer was still showing the same milage? (Ever time i had disconected my batter it resets to 0miles). Do they not have to disconnect the battery or anything to do this?

Still cant find the sticker anywhere and im in CA.

Also on the yellow paper that says what they did. it says:

Correct: RO NOT NEEDED WRONG VEHICLE
Operation: VOID
Hours: .0

Under the vehicle information is says 02 f150 which was my old truck which i had serviced at this dealer, so that way i didnt think anything of it..

Would this lead you to believe nothing was done?

Thanks,
Nick

Sticker

I don't believe they have to remove the battery. I don't have to to change my PCM tunes with my Xcal. No, I bet your dealer stiffed ya on the PCM update. Go back and tell them it still has the throttle lag and NO sticker. Mention the Emission requirement for it too. If they balk then go to another dealer and drop him like a dead fish.

Sounds as if they did not do yours Bushtree. I went back and looked at mine when it was in the bay. They had the underdash area torn apart and the battery was disconnected on it.

Sounds like they didn't do anything if it says "Not needed". You could always call 'em up and ask. If they say they did it, ask them why they put that on your paper.

I would love to help, as i have access to fmc i can look up your vin and see all prior work history. But maybe someone will chime along and help you out.

I myself just feel this turning into a "well he said this" match with your dealer and i dont want a part in it being the one that gave you the info.
