The wait is killing me and I'm almost 2 weeks, (calendar days) in!

I agree 100%. after I put the xcal2 on its was a night and day difference. its how I thought the '300hp' motor should have felt.

Has anyone gone with the XCAL II before a new intake? I'm having a hard time deciding on an intake, AF1, K&N, Volant or Airaid. Do I need to decide before i get the XCAL II?

MHP, that would be me, no intake yet, just the Magnaflow. Figured it was money better spent going with the tune prior to intake as plenty of those here have testified to. You do not need to decide your intake selection prior to XCAL II, as any intake can be added after XCAL II and will not require a re-tune. Jury is out for me between the Airaid and AF1. According to Troyer Performance, these are the best two intakes in terms of power gains compared to the others. I do like the black finish of the Airaid as opposed to the chrome AF1, but the AF1 supposedly eeks out a bit more power. We'll see, still not sure. Good luck with whatever you do!

KC-10 FE out...
Perfectly stated, i have always felt this way, what good is 300hp if it lags?

I ended up going with the JLT "True Cold Air Kit" (Link) -- might be an option for ya. I liked the black look, design looks just like an AF1, have seen his other products which are nice, and the "block off area" for the CAI is not a big deal to me. IMO, probably makes same power as AF1 or Airraid - who knows, I have a dyno graphy of the JLT but it's combined with a X2 as well -- it shows (43rwtq and 25rwhp) at highest point but shows (~50+rwtq and 35-40rwhp) at most gain point (around 3500rpm). The JLT is only $150 as well...as far as I'm concerned, $300+ is WAY too much for a CAI. A tuner, sure...a CAI, blah. Don't give me the "chrome" thing either, BBK should charge 500 for their mustang system then

P.S. - I haven't installed it yet, X2 is on order and not here yet. JLT specifies NO USE without a tune accomodating for it.

Thats exactly why you pay $300 for most intake kits, because they have been tested and researched and designed to work with a STOCK vehicle. It very rarely fails, you get what you pay for. I would have a hard time buying a no-name intake that says not to use unless you are tuned for it, especially on a $40k truck.

Damn, all those stupid a$$ 03+ cobra drivers buying $150 intakes which are twice as complex should be shot then... From what I've seen around here and other forums, almost all CAIs gain more from a tuner not to mention have less problems. I expect we'll see the same thing with the '05+ mustangs being that these trucks were the first of the "new gen" electronics etc. I'm sure there will be a lot of SES/CE lights from people not using tuners to accomodate...

I got bit by the mod “bug”. I have only owned my truck for 2 weeks now, but I placed my order today for the Troyer Performance Stage 1 kit (with AF1 intake). It sounds like I’ll be waiting awhile for it, but I’m sure the performance gains I’ve heard about will be worth it. I’d love to have it all received and installed before a camping trip over Labor Day weekend. It’d be nice to do my towing with a little more throttle response and power!

Great choice...I hope you're ready, because the "bug" doesn't stop biting

My Mod wishlist is too long to put here, so I know the bug will never stop biting.

I like to over feed my mod bug, then it's satisfied for a while ... X2/CAI/Headers/WeatherTech floormats all on the way for my truck, and an AutoSpring leveling kit for my dad's truck. I'm gonna be a busy modder...my mod bug might pass out from too much inhaling

Man, I was laughing my a$$ off! I'm kinda the same way too, but slowed down a bit, I find if I buy too many mods at once, I get impatient to want to install them all at once. If I buy one or two mods at a time, I find I'm more patient with the installs.

there should be a theropy class for mod addiction. I am always waiting for enough money to be able to afford my next mod. I find myself looking for cheap mods just so I can mod. for example this weekend I will be installing a electric tailgate lock that locks and unlocks. with my electric locks with remote. just a 15 dollar mod but it will satisfy my craveings for one more week. . I was considering getting me a excal 2 but was not sure it was really all as good as all the hype. now I am thinking it might have to be my next mod. this board just isn't helping my addiction.

Jason, I'm the exact same way, my wife thinks I'm beyond therapy. I'm constantly thinking of what else to do, I haven't even gotten my seat covers yet, and I'm already thinking about doing the flow thru console! I need to hit the lotto man.
