4.10's, how do they drive?

I have a stock 4x4 step-side and i have some gears from when i owned my mustang that i never installed. My question is how would they affect my gas millege, i drive 120 miles every day for work. But i drive 40 to 55 mph, i don't speed to 60 to 70 like every one else does but i still like to have some ommph! when i step on it. Would it be a good idea? i get 18 mpg now stock. A topper and intake is in the future with exhaust to help but how will the gears work?

first off are those gears 9.75 inch gears. if not they won't fit. also you will need to change the gear ratio if the front differential too otherwise you won't be able to use the 4x4. I think as long as you got the 18 inch rims and tires it wouldn't hurt your mileage much as long as you keep it under 60 mph. it might even help a little. I can't believe you get 18 mpg in a 4x4. the best I have ever gotten was 16. you must have a regular cab. ;)

Yeah, the gears are for 8.8 Did'nt think about that, thought they were the same  by the way, i have 17" rims. I Hate the fact i can't get 15" or 16" i realy wanted to buy a tire wheel package for cheap. Those 17"tires are expensive for off-road. And the mud hide's inside the wheel to easy even after you wash it out, i was shakin doin 55mph but after i sprayed with a hose for a bit, it stoped.

Thanks for the reply
