gauge cluster removal

I'm planning on repairing my gauge cluster since the temp needle is pegged beyond the "H" mark. I've searched around and found out how to remove the gauge cluster myself. I was wondering if I could still drive the truck around without having the gauge cluster intact. Will there be any implications if I did this?

I may be wrong, but I think PATS has to go through the cluster, so I don't think the engine will start with the cluster removed.

Thanks for the feedback! What does PATS stand for?
