But the real question is do you sit in the truck at the temp or open the windows, then trun the truck on, run the ac and then wait a few.
Actually, you pop the doors on both sides, and jump in. The parking lot temps are higher than anyone not in the desert would believe. A 140 air temp is not that bad, since you get the fan blowing right then. The A/C goes on in late May, and doesn't go off till late September. I used to keep thermometers in my cars, but never had one last till July.

Of course anyone with an ounce of brains uses a sun shade when they park. That and drop the windows about a half inch. Thus the VentVisors...

This F-150 is a great desert truck because the four dash mounted vents blow a LOT of air right at you. Nice on those days.

I like when you put it on max a/c, close all but one vent and feel the wind in your face (with the windows up)

or you can select the face position w/ recirculating air

Question

Hey raalden:

How'd you get the 12V power point out -- just "grip & rip" or is there some other way to get it out without breaking it?

Did a grip and rip. There appeared to be a clip behind the ppt that anchored it to the console. It broke when I pushed it out from behind. There was no way it was going back in the opening (even intact) anyway because I had to use a 2" hole drill to remove the lip the ppt was clipped to to begin with. The gauge is there to stay!

Ideas:

a) Multi-position switch for mood lighting.
b) Engine vacuum gauge seen elsewhere on this board.
c) Some kind of instant gas mileage gauge.
d) Transmission temp gauge.
e) Map light of some kind.
f) Beer tap for mini-keg in huge dash compartment.
g) Fragrance dispenser.
h) Microphone for CB/PA system.
i) USB port for built-in MP3 player
j) Analog clock.
k) Keyswitch for "performance mode" (ala LT5 Corvette)
l) Padded round holder for your favorite Mont Blanc
m) Driving light switch.
n) Back-up video switch.
o) Air-horn switch.
p) Covert security camera to beam you pictures of whomever is stealing your truck.
q) Starter switch like old cars had (and new high end cars have.)
r) Dummy button labeled Eject. Optional shock effect.
s) Coin-holder (Just kidding.)
t) Backup sensor gauge
u) Remote tire pressure gauge.
v) Heated seat actuation switch.
w) Exhaust gas temp gauge.
x) Electronic locking differential switch.
y) Custom smooth the dash over, no hole at all.
z) Leave it a 12V port, it's kind of a useful thing.

Gladly spending other people's money Research not included.

Item (h) probably isn't a good idea, and on mine it would be a frozen margarita dispenser from the mini-slushy machine crammed in the huge dash compartment.

Your internal temp gauge would be bent around the pin in Phoenix in the summer.

Would still love to have more info on the brand (manufacturer) of that temp gauge. The coin thrower must go...
