Ticking sound coming from engine

Hey Guys,

I've got an 05 supercrew lariat and I can't figure out if this ticking sound I hear from the engine is normal. It's almost like the your truck makes when your alternator is bad or like oil hitting hot metal, but without the hiss afterwards. It's not back to back, as it has about a 30 second delay inbetween. What the heck is it? Anyone run into this?

Thanks,

Duke

Are you sure its not the AC relay clicking on and off?
Turn your AC and all air off and see if it still occurs.

Yeah I messed with the AC and thats got to be it. Doesn't do it when I have the AC off. But is that normal for that to be that loud and that frequent, somewhere around every 20 to 30 seconds.

Side note, how are those HID going?

Its abnormally loud but its just the high voltage relay they use.
I wouldnt worry about it.

Ok, sounds good...just couldn't figure it out b/c I can hear it from inside the cabin and it's pretty loud for A/C. Never had a car that loud before...course then again I was driving an Infiniti..big difference on build quality there. Guess I shouldn't expect it to be that quiet.

The fuel injectors would make a tic-tic-tic sound, I hear this on my truck when I lift the hood with the engine running.

I have not heard the A/C clutch cycle from inside the cab, I wonder if there is an inside relay?

My 4.6 does it. It's the A/C clutch.
