its just like any other type of insurance...you may need it, u may not. I got the 5 year/100k mile esp on my '01. with 96k on it now, ive only used the esp 1 time to replace the master cylinder...

it was only an $80 or something repair, so in my particular case, the esp was not worth it. i didnt get the esp on my new truck because im modding the crap outta it...

but u'll be glad as hell if u have it and your motor or tranny goes...

Do a search for it. I remember someone recommending to just offer $200 over cost for the plan and they will usually take it.

Just do a little calculating.

1. How long do you normally keep a vehicle?
2. In your past experience, how many times would you have needed ESP?
3. What was the cost of repairs if you had a breakdown?
4. If you bought ESP for every vehicle you have bought, how many cars wouldit buy or how many repairs could you have made with the money?

A friend of mine bought it last year and he had already purchased a ESP for his new vehicle. He is 65 years old and has owned vehicles almost 50 years and he said he would never have needed it.

ESP is simply breakdown insurance and it is sold simply to make money. The commissions are very high and they will probably make more money on the sale of ESP than they do on the vehicle.

Keep in mind, you're not buying 6 year and 100,000 coverage. You have to subtract the original warranty coverage you already have to get to what you are truly buying.

Its a gamble that both parties are willing to take.

Ford is gambling the vehicle won't need repairs greater than the cost of selling the ESP.

The consumer is gambling that as the vehicle ages something will go up that the ESP covers.

I purchased one on my mustang....replaced the transmission and rear. Paid for itself.

I purchased one on my wife's toyota....replaced an ashtray. Took a beating.

The difference is peace of mind, which also has value. I know that @ 36001 if the bottom of the motor drops out I'm good.

That reasuurance and protection does have a value.

I've been told that the ESPs have HUGE markup and are VERY negotiable.

I guess mine is called ESP. My coverage is 5 years, 75,000 miles bumper to bumper. It cost me $1400.00 (I got the Ford D-plan on my deal through my brother). However, according to what the dealer told me (I do also have this in writing) if I do not have a claim on the warranty after 5 years, or 75,000 miles, I fill out the paper work provided to me send it in, and I get the money I paid for the warranty back, minus a $50.00 handling fee (also minus the interest I will pay on that $1400 over the nex five years).
I figured, when they laid it out like that, how could I say no. The piece of mind alone is worth $1400.00.

That is NOT something Ford offers pigg. You can cancel it and get a pro-rata refund but not 100% refund. However some dealers use an outside insurance company for that full refund deal. i would check your paperwork for anything like that.

The ESP is just like insurance. They hope you don't need it and you hope it covers everything.

Depends on how long you keep the car/tk and how much you drive.

In Florida ESP is considered insurance and because of that it is not negotiable. Has to be sold at selling price.

Ford is a good extended service plan....but believe my there are MANY bad ones out there that are from everybody and anybody. Most are good, not as good as Ford ESP, but good none the less. Then there are the BAD ones. They find every reason to not cover items and they charge you a separate deductable for each item of concern on the repair visit. Now that is a RIP.

Take a look at how long you plan on keeping the car/tk and how much you drive to decide. Also....how tolerant are you of auto repairs????

ESP FULL REFUND

I have the same full refund ESP deal in writing from my dealer.

They even warned me not to use the ESP for something small.

Another dealer here on the site provided all the info verify the deal.

That's the same thing I was told. Do not use it for something that costs $100. because you will lose the whole she-bang-a-bang. When I get a change, I'll scan all the "rules and regs" and post them. I don't know if it is through Ford or my dealer, and I don't really care, as long as they honor the contract I signed.
