Will the Actron work with C.A.N.???

Ok, I looked at the thread on code scanners and I can't seem to find a definite answer on this. I want to get either a CP9135 or CP9145 Actron code reader/scan tool from E-bay and I don't know for sure if it works with the CAN network on these trucks. This is a quote from their site on the 9145, "Tool is fully upgradeable, accommodating future vehicles (including C.A.N.)" So this means when I get it it won't work? Anyone have one of these and knows what it takes to get it to work. How do you do this upgrade on the unit and is it free? THANKS!!

Oh yes, I did find out something......forgot to update. Ok, I email Actron and ask them this and they say yes, you have to get the upgrade which you have to BUY this cable and a CD with the updrade on it. They quoted me at about $100 just for the upgrade!! What a load of crap! I buy a $300 scan tool and can't even use it without shelling out more for some upgrade that should be included and sent to you when available. They also said it wasn't available yet and didn't tell me when it would be.....

Well, the one I got is the 9145, which will read/erase generic OBD III (P0xxx) codes including pending ones (those that have not yet set a hard code that turns on the CEL but have occured at least once) and also enhanced codes (the P1xxx codes). It is a "scanner" instead of just a code reader and will also show you live data from several different parameters that are available from your computer (MAP sensor readings, O2 sensor voltages, coolant temp readings....ect ect ect.) And will also display freeze frame data from stored codes if any data was recorded with the code when it was set. It can show you if your vehicle has passed enough of the readiness tests to pass inspection, and if not, which ones need to be completed. Pretty neat tool in itself, I have tried it out on my moms 03' mountaineer, 96 Mustang GT, and a 99 F-250 deisel, and my buddies 96 eclipse GS-T with no problems.

honestly, the Xcal2 can do most if not all of that stuff, what i would do is upgrade your X1 to the new X2, i know Doug at BamaChips.com will be doing an upgrade offer soon, you should talk to him about it.

Thanks for the info. Don't see a lot it does that the cheap Scangauge doesn't do, but I was interested. I want to see a proper 'editor' that can go into the PCM and change preferences. You can do that on VW stuff, with a special reader, but no one seems to want to 'port' it over to Ford.
