Center Console Lock - Someone Help!!

As with many others of you F-150 owners with the flow through console I have some valuable stuff in there. I keep my digital cameracorder in there - all the remote's for my TV's and DVD's as well as CD's and what not.

Anyways - living in Boston I often have to valet my truck (extremely unwillingly) and if just giving someone else the keys to my truck isn't enough I have to worry that they will steal something even if only the quarters I have in there.

MY QUESTION IS - Has anyone seen - or does anyone have any ideas on how I can lock my center console - or fabricate something to lock it???

Not just valet's but also when I take it to the stereo shop or the body shop...

Any help will be greatly appreciated - and thanks in advance!

Putting a lock on a plastic box really isn't security. Yeah it may keep the valet from casually browsing your F-150 store, but it won't stop much else. I'd find a nice metal lock box that fits right in the console... then bolt it to the floor. Security problem solved, even if it's a break-in.

J-150,

Thanks for your invaluable advice - the type of reply I wait for all day after asking a question which is important to me.

Dzervit - thanks for the advice - might be something worth looking into...

You can buy insert type locks at any RV store. A motorhome has dozens of locking compartments. They keep honest guys honest, which is about all a light lock can do. Still worth doing.

I have the 40-20-40 so don't know how much room you have. another approach is getting a 'pistol' safe. You can get them from 20 - 60 bucks at Wal-Mart. They don't have a huge amount of room, but I mounted one in my convertible Tracker, so at the beach we can put the car keys, camera, binoculars, and wallets in the combination safe before going down to the water...
Good luck.
Chris

when you're done with the sarcasm I will explain it.

you put a lock on it and you are advertising that there is something valuable in there. you are asking some crackhead or valet to pry open (which is extremely easy) the lid, lock or not.

so my advice was in fact sound. Just because its not the answer you wanted to hear doesn't make it any less valid.

If you don't want to read answers that are not kissing your butt or meet your expectations, then do a search. And if you dont find anything go out onto the internet and look at retailers sites but for pete's sake, dont ask in a forum.

J-150,

You're wrong.

And if you don't mind I no longer need your input in this thread.

Good luck with everything else.

J's point is valid... don't put all that stuff in the truck. But assuming it's a must for job/life/whatever reasons, get a strong metal lock box and hide it out of site. Like J said in his 2nd post, an exposed cheap lock is a advertisement for a crook!

When I dropped my last truck off for service at the dealership, I had a few bucks in change (mostly quarters) in my cupholder. When I picked it back up, all the quarters were gone! I didn't realize it until I got home. I called them and complained and they sent me a check for the missing amount.

anyways, I never leave anything of value in my trucks anymore when I drop them off somewhere...

The reasons for why I keep that stuff in there is irrelevant - I asked a pretty straight forward question - I don't want anybody's opinion who is going to argue with me about the reasons for my doing or not doing something.

I keep that stuff in there for a reason - which consequently is nobody's business - what IS your business is if you have seen or heard of someone putting a lock on their center console.

I appreciate you all who are looking out for my well being and the well being of the things I keep in my truck however I am not posting on a forum looking for friends - I am looking for answers - And simply put if you do not have one, or info regarding how I could get one, I don't really want to hear what you have to say.

Now I know some of you might not have other things going for you - and if you do I don't really care.

The point is I am not looking for people to agree with me on anything - I could care less whether or not you agree - what I do care is if you know how or have seen/heard of anyone who has put a lock on their center console.

The issue was brought up of putting a lock box in my console - that is solid advice which I do want to hear. Telling me to not keep anything valuable in my truck is useless advice - and if you have useless advice keep it to yourself - no one wants to read it and it is not funny.

So I sincerely hope that the only reply to this message will be in regards to whether anyone has any ideas on how to lock my center console.

If you do not have any ideas pertaining SPECIFICALLY to my question I BEG YOU to not post anything because I do not care what you have to say (whether or not you agree is upto you).

If you are going to reply to argue with me I will let you know in advance you will not get a response from me. My only response from now on will be to thank anyone who has some good ideas -and let me begin by thanking dzervit for his advice and while I am at it let him hear from yet another member that I think his f-150 is awesome.

with all due respect, you found it to be useless advice. I do not find it useless which is why I offered it.

You are not the only one reading this thread so there is a chance that others reading it may find it useful.

I think you'll find that many threads with a questions have replies that do not directly answer the question, but are still answers to that question.

When you post a quesiton on a forum, you have to take all of the answers, good and bad.
