There is a wide variety of tuning/data logging out there. Some data long from start up to shut down and just records the peaks and valleys. Some record 200X/second. Some allow you to change just air/fuel and timing, withing so many degrees or points. Others allow you full control, including shift points, converter lockup, you name, they can do it. Some units have to be downloaded to a laptop, some into a PDA. Some give you 4 programs and that's it, while others let you tune whatever your heart desires.

It just depends on what you are looking to do. If all you want is HP, then buy a tuner/chip and go for it. If you want to understand the computer and how the system works, you may need a little more. If you want to be able to tune your truck any which way possible, then you may need a little more.

It all boils down to how much do you want to spend and how much are you looking to accomplish. Personally, being able to data log real time, change parameters on the fly, record IAC temps to see the value of mods, all the goodies, seems very interesting to me and something I would like to do down the road.

I talked to these guys at Sema in November, it was gonna ship end of Dec that became end of Jan, etc, etc. I just called them and quess what? it'll be ready end of April. I'd like to get a Scout but I think we will see a V6 diesel before these guys ship anything. Too bad though it would be cool.

I just visited a "sniper" dyno tuner yesterday and I was pretty impressed with his work. If you'd like more info on Sniper visit this site. www.panhandleperformance.com

Edge products makes a nice tuner too. Their monitor is cool since it doubles as gauges too. Should be available for the 3v shortly.
Talk about bringing an old thread up. The quote was posted in april 05. Ya, 9 months later we finally get the edge.
