2004 Rear-end vibration
The Dispute Settlement Board ordered Ford to fix my 2004 F-150 on March 4th. The Ford Field Service Engineer drove it today and said they can't! He said if they try to fix the vibration I'm having at 75MPH it will cause a vibration at another speed.
Ford is flat out lying because they don't want to spend the money to fix it. They have already solved the problem on the 2005 model.
I called the dispute settlement board to tell them what Ford said.
They asked me what would make me happy.
I told them I either want the rear axle fixed/replaced or I want my money back. The DSB is going to evaluate my request and let me know.
It's a sad, sad day when Ford says they can't stop their $37,000 vehicle from vibrating.

outch man! I'm sorry to hear that! You got one of the vibs a long with me in the 2004 modles. Fords going to buy mine Back, but I plan on getting into another f150 (05) this time that has it's vibe thing worked out. Have Ford just buy your truck back and get into the 2005 modle!

whoa whoa whoa!!!?
What?! Are you guys serious? I've have similar, if not the same problems with my '04 F150. I bought mine in August of 04 so I know it was built prior to 11/18. I haven't checked the VIN but I shall. "Buy back"?! WTF! I love my pick-em-up-truck and I might have to start over??? (Livex, custom grille [I cut the original one], lift, etc.)....
Heres what mine does:
1) When I accelerate from a stop, there is a definite "thud" like a locker rear-end engaging... but I know Ford has no locker. i kinda feels like the trans is "searching for gears".
2) Really bad shimmy/vibration at 75+ mph.
3) all four (4) rotors deeply scored/grooved (pads are probably just as bad.. obviously).
4) Squeaking from (what sounds like...) the front rotors at low speeds or heavy braking from high speeds.
5) vibration when slowing from 50+ mph.
I don't mean to make this thread about me, but are these symptoms what I should have the dealer focus on?
let me know please

1) the slip yoke is not......wel....slipping
solution: grease the slip yoke. this fixes the problem, but lasts only about 2 months. mine has been greased 4 times..
2) really bad shimmy's seem to be the cause of teh emergency brake. try pulling and releasing it...... ( shimmy in steering wheel requires dynamic road force balance of tires and sometimes tire replacement.
3) don't know
4) don't know
5) maybe same issue as 2
hope this helps

No. 2 was fixed on my 04 FX4 with the road force balance, mine was more of a steering wheel nibble that started around 72mph to how ever fast I wanted to drive.

I'll have the dealer grease the yoke and we'll see.
I'll also check the E-brake.
...And, as a follow up to the rotor concerns, my F150 has 8k on the odo! And the brakes started "grooving" at around 2k. I seriously doubt the rotors should be as bad as there are, given I live in SF proper, and I may brake more often than suburban areas,... I dunno. Its just not right...
but thx for the info

The vibration at 75MPH has nothing to do with the E-Brake.
Ford knows what it is and they've fixed it on the new models.
They will play a game with you and pretend they don't know because they sold about 500,000 of the trucks in 2004.
If they admit that thousands of their 2004 trucks have a problem there isn't enough money in the world to fix 500,000 trucks.
(well maybe Exxon-Mobil could do it)
They're only going to solve the problem for the small percentage of people that are a non-stop pain in the butt.
