What does "XLT" mean?

XLT, SLT? They advertise it but don't tell you what it means. I know it's a body style, but what do the letters stand for?

Any ideas?

Thank You.

these days, the letters mean nothing.

look at all of the letter designations on various cars.

GT used to mean something until they started putting it on Escorts and Hyundais. Shelby used to mean something... until he put his name on a Turismo. SVT only means something to car nuts... not the general public.

One might guess "extra luxury truck" but then XL shoots that down.

??

Those letters have nothing to do with body style. They are designations for the "trim" packages available.

XLT stands for ??? middle of the road, most common, the base for which options and decorations are built on?

How about "fle(X)ible (L)ayer for (T)itivation"!?

Ah that was fun! I don't know?

Titivation: to improve the appearance of something by neatening or adding decoration

Pretty much all XLT is, is just a trim line. They have to give these trucks some kind of a trim to tell the difference between them. It just goes from the XL, STX, XLT, FX4, LARIAT, HARLEY DAVIDSON, KING RANCH and so on... The trim lines don't stand for anything at all.

XL = Xtremely Lucky. (Didn't go with Chevy.)
STX = Standard Trim Xpress. (Didn't pay extra for goodies, but great truck.)
XLT = Xtra Luxury Trim. (Had a few extra bucks laying around.)
FX4 = Fricken Xcelent ( The 4 designates it's four times better than an XLT.)
Lariat = Wanna Be (Wanna be cowboy, but have a cushy tushy.)
HD = Harley Edition. ( I have so much money that I don't have to push my Harley up the hills anymore.)
King Ranch = I have money, and didn't want a vinyl back seat like the cheap Lariat's have.

Lincoln LT = I have enough money to buy one each of all the above trucks.

That was an appropriate flair to use you little devil! Bait if I’ve ever seen it! Since I'm tuned in here now ... I'll respond to that from my purchase experience!

Lariat: you get imitation wood and white gauges that I personally don't really like and loose 500lb load capacity and tire options due to the 18" wheels. Oh and only leather seats … Another unacceptable for me!

FX4: All I can say is nice for most everything … but black seats and all but one were leather. The biggest factor for me though was that I lost the perfect cup holder positions and between the seat storage with that sporty shift console. My dealer wouldn’t change out center console or change the seats.

King ranch: not produced at the time!

The only option that I would have chosen if possible was the FX4 gauge pod but the dealer said he couldn't do it. So, like I said it was the basis to build the next levels of trim on. From a trim level, in my opinion, there was really only the gauge pod that my dealer wouldn’t give on an XLT. The mirror & towing pkg, autodim, lighted vanities, power pedals, captain's chairs with big center console, etc … all there. Custom to what I wanted so to speak…

In a sense there were more options with XLT than with the other trim levels as they wouldn't change anything on the next up (so to speak) levels!

So, now I’m curious too, what fun digs will might come of this thread!?

Good job Mach! I like’em!
