Elcctronic Shift Option
Can anyone tell me what the electronic shift option is and what it does.

Are you talking about 4x4 Electronic Shift on the Fly? Where you can turn the knob and you are now in 4 wheel drive?

Sounds like the knob on the dash that electronically engages the 4x4 system instead of a manual floor shifter that has to be pulled to manually engage the 4x4.

OK so I JUST went to Ford's website and built an XLT and at the end, one of the options for $160 was Electronic Shift On The Fly. in which this case they are referring to the 4x4.
That's got to be what it is. Probably one of those options that they ALWAYS put on no matter what. |
Electronic shift on the fly is standard on the FX4, Lariat and KR. Optional on the XLT.
From Ford: In addition to the standard features on every F-150, listed below are a few of the FX4 features that are upgrades over XLT. Electronic shift-on-the-fly 4x4 5.4L Triton® 3V V8 Off-road tuned shocks Skid plates and limited slip axle Black bar-style grille insert |
160.00 for a little switch, that's lame. I'll keep my manual
shifter on the floor. PLUS i get the floor mounted cup holders and a tuffer interior look. Also i have the limited slip diff ( stock ) why Ford claims that the FX-4 has it as an upgrade to the XLT is the question of the week. I also prefer the black honeycomb grille over the one with the bars that the FX-4 has. |
Uuuhhh.... it's more than just a "little switch." There's also the motor that does the gear engaging/disengaging and sensors to make sure it works properly. Plus, all the other electronics to make it all work.
