hole melted in my center console

I tried a search and can,t find anything so I will ask if anyone heard of this.
I had my 2004 F150 lariet idleing while I unloaded my 4 wheeler and parked it in the garage, when i opened the truck door to get in I saw a white light shining through the side of the center console, the headlights were on.
I felt the hole and got burned, it's forward of the storage bin just slightly behind the shifting lever, probably something thats not covered under warranty.
I'll be checking with the dealer first thing in the morning but I thought I would run it by the forum members in case someone had an experience like this.
The truck has never been abused or in any kind of accident, ah well keeps life interesting.

It's probably an electrical short. Why wouldn't it be covered under warranty?

The smell seemed to be burning plastic not overheated electrical circuit.
My comment about not covered under warranty was maybe frustration, but I thought bumper to bumper was only first 12000 after that only major components, I hope I,m wrong the odometer reads 34300.
I still love the truck!

Unless you did some crazy mods, that will be covered under warranty. Let us know what it was.

Grizz,

Take it in quick. The factory warranty is 3 yrs/36K miles starting from the "in service" date and mileage. For example, my truck had 72 miles on it when I closed the deal at the dealership, so my warranty expires on Jul 10, 2007 or at 36,072 miles.

Good luck and let us know what you find out!

Does anyone know how picky the dealerships are about warrenty coverage when it comes to the milage limits? For example, if you brought the truck in with something serious like say a blown transmission or something at 36 100 miles, do you think they would just say "too bad" ?

Chrysler will....

Exactly what happed, Dodge Neon, Tranny blew @ 52 miles over warranty. He said too bad, and had a huge smile while doing it.

Got rid of it real quick.

great experienceC

Called dealer on monday says we will take care of it, they set up appointment for tuesday to do the pad recall and check out the console.
It seems the shift position indicator light came lose and fell against the console. They disconected for now and ordered the parts, console, trim and an assembly not sure exactly what he called that but very up front and professional. One piece had a small paint chip they said we can't have that, so that will also be replaced.
Great service so far.
