Installed my Back-Up Camera this weekend...(pics)

I installed my back up camera this weekend. I started to go with the through the license plate mount like others have used but since I went with a camera with night-vision I was afraid the license plate lights would blind it. So I mounted it under the bumper. I bought a eletrical box from Lowes and painted it black. I cut a hole in the front and then mounted it to my reciever hitch. I got power to it from the back-up lights...that way its only on when the truck is in reverse. I used the same source to go to the radio to trigger the camera image when you put the truck in reverse.
The night-vision is pretty nice and works well. It has a photo sensor on it so when its light the camera is in full color but when its dark it goes into night-vision (the little LEDs you see around the camera light up) and the camera is in the green and white night vision mode. It really works well...I was very supprised.

I think the install turned out pretty clean.

Ok..I will try to get some tonight. The pics of the monitor always turn out way worse than it actually looks though (you know how your TV looks if you take a picture of it). The night-vision images look as good as those you see on CNN or whatever when they are showing war images at night. For a camera costing less than $90 I was really impressed with it.

BTW...I bought the camera from Ebay seller "millennium-lab". Here is a link to the auction I bought mine from:

Looks nice. I've decided to upgrade my back-up camera to the night-vision one like you have. The one have now doesn't have that. Wish I saw that one available when I did my install.

OK...here are the pics. Like I said they look a lot better on the screen but it gives you an idea of how the camera works.

Taken during the day sitting in traffic:

Taken at night:

This was taken out my back window at the same time as the pic of above to show how dark it was:

Yes, but barely. I am not sure I would be compfortable enough to use it by itself to hook up to the trailer though. I am the most paranoid person in the world about that....I am scared to death I am going to bang up my bumper!!!

There needs to be a built in camera in the hitch or something. That would be cool. It would take all the guess work out of hooking up yourself. I always have to get out of my truck 3 or 4 times before I get it right. The camera could be similar to this lockable hitch, but have a camera there instead.

Anyone wanna go in with me on a design....we could make millions!!

fx4scab,
Good idea for the hitch. Could remove the lock and insert a camera instead. Should probably put a shatter-proof cover over it though just in case you back up just a little too far. Then just mount the plugs right next to the trailer plug in connector and you'd be set.

Yeah, I told my wife about the newest mod I wanted and she gave me that familiar look; you know the one.
