I don't know the answer to your question. But if it is anything like the low fuel light on my Sport Trac, you had better be near a gas station when that thing comes on!

I think I read somewhere that you're suppose to be able to go about 50 miles. But I believe I remember someone trying it and didn't quite get that far. I know it's in the manual somewhere, but I don't have it with me at the moment.

How far can I go??
Just wondering if anyone has pushed there fuel mileage to the limits. I was on my way home tonight and just didnt feel like getting off the parkway to get gas. I figured I had enough to get me to the rest area and get it there. This got me thinking as to how far I could really go once my low fuel light comes on. I have the 35.7 gal. fuel tank, when the low fuel light came on I then drove 21 miles, to the nearest gas station. Filled it up and it took 33.7 gal. That leaves 2 gallons in the tank. I know it depends on MY fuel mileage and how I drive, but im just wondering if anyone has driven further with their low fuel light on. Also, how far does the pickup go into the tank? Im sure I couldnt get all the fuel out. Any ideas???

I have since tried it again and have gone 30 miles after the light came on.

I've always heard you should keep at least a 1/4-1/2 tank of gas in your car/truck, because the gas sloshes around and cools your in-tank fuel pump. If you get too low, the pump gets hot which *COULD* result in premature failure.

I personally think that "fuel cooling the fuel pump" is a bunch of bunk. I have historically taken my tank down to near empty before filling up on every car I have ever owned and have never had a fuel pump fail.

My light came on, I drove 14 miles and then put 34.25 gallons into my 35.7 gallon tank. Given I'm getting 13 mpg that looks to be about 2.5 gallons of gas left when the light goes on.

Mine seems to come on a little early, like with 4 - 5 gallons left. I kind of like it though.

My '05 XLt tells me it's low with about 5-6 gallons left. It has a 35.7 gallon tank.

I know my FX4 (with the big tank) will have 2.5 gallons left when the light comes on. I will ussually take it too the light unless I am on a trip. At 15 mpg that gives me 37.5 miles till towing time/fuel pump replacement.

don't know how many gallons are left - but mine comes on when there is 50 miles left in the tank according to the trip computer - this is on a Lariat though...not sure if it is the same with other models

Just because you have gas left in the tank after the low fuel light comes on doesn't mean you can use it. The pickup may not go to the very bottom of the tank. It was mighty embarrasing pushing my new Escape down main street because I ran out of gas. I don't think I could push my F150.

Mine comes on with about 2.5-3.5 gals to spare too, with the miles empty screen reading its from 45miles (i get from 14.5-15.7mpg in city) and I've gone as low as 5-6miles till empty and refilled with 1/2gal to spare.
