aftermarket reverse sensing

I just realized, the truck I was planning on buying tomorrow (04 FX4 S/C) does not have reverse sensing! That is one of my "must haves" on a new truck. Does anyone know if this can be added aftermarket? Or does it require a new bumper?

I would think some aftermarket manufacturers make this. No you may have to drill some holes to mount the sensors but not a new bumper. Try a google search and see what ya can find.

Thos one looks pretty cool also......

I am not sure but Ford may also sell the kit to put it on your truck through the parts department.

Contact MikeF150. He wired in a reverse sensing system that he seems to LOVE. I believe he started a thread in SuperCrew or King Ranch about it. Try searching within those forums.

You can go extra hi-tech. I have the Alpine IVA-D300 installed with the rear view camera option. It works much better than the sensors. I have it plugged into the hitch reciever cover.

about $1500 for the head unit and another $150 or so for the camera. I installed it my self. I used to do that for a living in another life.

can't help you out on the rear reverse sensing system, my 04 came with it as an option and I hate it, I have a 04 f-150 reg cab with a topper and 8 ft box, I have no problems parking it.

I haul a lot of lumber with the tail gate down, this activates the reverse sensing system every time I back onto a job site, If thier ice/dirt on the sensors, it activates the rear reverse sensing system... I got tired of truning it off every time I was in reverse, disconected the sensors on the bumper.

Get the Kenwood DDX7015, about 1100 for the HU, great display. About 100-200 for the camera depending on which cam you choose.

My gallery has a few pics of the HU.

I love my factory reverse sensors. It does continously beep is the tailgate is down (in reverse) or if the sensors are snow/ice covered (in reverse) but it has already saved my butt a few times. There is a button on the dash to turn off the sensors if you run into one of those above conditions.

When I first bought my truck I thought I wanted the reverse sensing unit, and asked the dealer if they could install it. They told me no, as it used a different rear bumper (apparently the holes are prefabricated).

Peb Boys sells and installs an aftermarket kit that uses two sensors. I almost put one in until I found out that the guy that was going to install it had never put one in before, and after talking with him, I decided I did not want him drilling holes in my brand new truck.

After driving it for a month now, I don't think the reverse sensing was as important as I did previously. A camera would be pretty cool though....

That's the stupidest idea I ever heard, rubrnek. How the heck is a midget going to yell loud enough for you to hear over the radio? You have to give him paddles like a controller on a carrier. Jeez, talk about not well thought out...
