how do you gain access to the overhead lights??
im trying to tap into the power wires from the overhead light so i can run strobes above my rearview mirror. anyone have any advice
Yup... it just pulls down. 4 clips hold it up there. If you have the overhead rail... you obviously pull down the storage module first as it sits over the edge of the light.
There are four wires that feed it. Two are grounds, one becomes hot when you turn on the interior lights.... the other stays hot most of the time, or until the battery kill circuit sees the overhead lights are still on then kills them to save your battery. I pulled it all apart because I was going to wire my Valentine from up there... but I like it to shut of with the opening of the door like the radio or other ACCs do. So neither of those two wires would work. I ended up finding a good on in the center console to the right of the shifter. Lots of room in there to mount the Valentines remote interface.

What I did..
The front pillars have a lot of room for wires. After you locate a suitable power wire under the dash you can fish wires along the driver side pillar tying the wires to the steel cross member under the dash and up a large opening at the front area of the pillar trim. Take the trim off by removing the caps and then removing the screws near the grab handles. it pulls up and then out.
then run wires up the driver pillar trim, then along the front header. there are even holes every 6 inches in the sheet metal up the pillar and along the front header sheet metal. if you tape christmas tree connectors to a wire bundle , you can push them in place to hold the wire in place.
removing the bin housing and then unscrewing the 2 screws per aluminum rail will allow you to flex the overhead system down enough to route the wires along the front. just don't pull down too hard and buckle the headliner..

Your post would indicate that you have dug pretty deep into the power availability in or around the headliner area . I've been trying to find the power for the lighted vanity mirrors and Homelink and was wondering if you have seen anything that would appear to be for these options. I have a FX4 but am trying to upgrade to the Lariat visors. Thanks..
