When I first hooked up my Airaid and drove around in my truck with it on for several days, I also noticed that annoying resonance sound in the cabin. I thought something wasn't right because of that sound, but the check engine light never came on and other members on this forum had similar experinces with the resonance sound, so I assumed everything was okay and so far I haven't had any problems with the Airaid as far as check the engine light is concerned or any other problems. Once I turned off the O/D, the annoying resonance sound was pretty much gone. IMO, the performance that the Airaid gives outweighs the very minor annoying sound that the Airaid produces.

My wife gave me a choice, either the Airaid intake left or she would. I'll sure miss her. Just kidding. But, it really was too loud and had a horrible whistle, (even without the spacer). I got it from RPMOutlet and it took me 7 months to get a refund, (Even with authorization from Airaid).

Ok I am missing something. I bought this truck specifically because of the quitest cabin in the industry. How come you guys dont go nuts with the sound stereo. that goes hand in hand with a quite cab. Me personally I think I will be buying a mustang for speed.

mine was loud at first, i think what you are talking about too. not loud like you can hear extra air coming in, but loud like it almost sounds like something is wrong with the engine. my resonance happened at about 60-65 in overdrive, then would go away at higher and lower speeds.

luckily, and hopefully for all of you too, it went away. i've had the Airaid on for 2 months and about 3K miles and it doesn't do it anymore. i'd say keep it on and see if it doesn't go away.

Interesting that you gas mileage isn't as good. I thought improved air flow was better for gas mileage. I suppose there is a lot of physics involved I don't know about, but I don't think MPG should suffer. I don't too many people who claimed lower MPG with a CAI or exhaust for that matter.

Aggie- I am too one of the unfortunate ones of this unbearable drone. My question is do you have the Overdrive On or Off? Because this happens at highways speeds or steep hils with the Overdrive on.

Thanks in advance for your reply post.

Anyone with the 5.4 that hates the drone too much... just drop me a line. I'll be glad to listen to the drone in my truck.

the resonance on mine would go away on its own in overdrive...it was only for probably the first 2 weeks or so and only at around 60-65 miles an hour - once i got going faster than that, the resonance would go away

hope this helps

I understand what you're saying, but personally, I can't afford this truck and a mustang, so while the features of the truck make me choose it over a 'stang, why can't I mod it up a little to give it a little 'stang?

To chime in about the issue with the loud intakes...My intake was loud when I first installed it. This was with the "old" syle intake tube. It has the dimple in the side of the tube near the MAF sensor. Now, since my truck threw a lean code, I have gotten the redesigned intake tube, which now has a dimple the runs across the bottom of the intake right after the MAF sensor. I can honestly say that the redesigned tube is much quieter than the original. I have been unable to really even hear the intake now, and the redesigned tube even seemed to give a little more seat of the pants jump than the old tube. Anyone else notice the difference in the redesigned tube?

Brent,
Do you have the "new" intake tube or the old one? The old tube is cylindrical all the way to the TB, the new one has an indentation or concave ridge on the bottom of the tube in front of the TB. My old tube would resonate at certain throttle settings, the new tube is MUCH quieter.

These items don't help gas mileage?

Anyone with a different brand have similar problems with excessive noise?

I read early on that somebody had a K & N which is what I had my Expy. I could live with that level of noise but not something as noticeable as described here. I do have the Borla cat-back system installed and was considering one of these air intake systems for when it gets warmer outside but now I'm rethinking that plan. Ahhh, so much controversy!

My Airaid will be here on Thursday....is it safe to assume that I'll be getting the "new" tube you're referring to?

I had the same problem when I installed my AIRAID. After driving around for a while, i decided to pop the hood and take a look around. The Problem: Airbox and Filter was not tightened enough. Take out the filter, make sure the box is tight, and solid. Make sure the box is flush with the tube coming out of the throttle body (AND TIGHT!) and then put the filter back on, once again making sure that it is as flush and tight as you can get it. That solved my problems instantly. I was minutes away from taking it out and tossing it, Now I love the thing.

Good Luck
