window tinting...

I want to get my front door windows tinted but am afraid of gettin a fine for them being too dark...does anyone know what the light transmission % is on the FX4 rear and supercab door windows are? I want to match it up but don't really want to go below Colorado's 27% law......do cops really enforce that? how woudl they know if it's 27% or 20%???

The lady that does my window tintind said the back was 15%, the people that did my 2000 F150 said the rear factory was 17%. She did my 04 with 20% and it looks awesome. Depending on the color of your truck, it may not seem as dark. The police in my area arent real strict on it, atleast not unless its 5%. Theway they check it around here is, they have a card, like a business card that has a tint on half of it that they hold up to window while it is rolled halfway down and the shade of the card should match the shade of the tint. 35% is darkest legal in my state(MS).

I went and looked at your truck (nice, by the way!) and if they are strict on it, you might want to stay legal. A dark colored vehicle will be more evident than a lighter one. My uncle has a white 04 Lariat with 20% on the fronts (factory on the rears) and it being a lighter vehicle seems just about right. My dad went with 35% on his red F250 and they seem about the same. It just depends on the color of the truck and interior.

I put 5% on the ext cab windows and 15% on the drivers and passenger with a 6 inch strip of 5% on the windsheild. I know that some cops have light meters in their cars. I have updatemy gallery to show you pics. I live in Ohio you can put anything on the back windows but only 30% on the front. Just don't drink and drive it gives the cops a reason to pull you over.

there is also a electronic device some police departments use for the tint on cars on windows that roll down they put it on the window and it tells the % of the tint on my 03 cavalier i had dual 5 % on the rear 3 and 35 and 5 % on the fronts and it read that i had 3.7 % tint on the front windows also the other tool they use has a light that reflects off a solid window and it tells the % of tint im planning on doing dual 5% on the rear of my truck and 5% or 15 - 20 % on the driver and pass side so ill be illegal in missouri the law in missouri states anything you want behind the driver so you could put vinyl on the windows behind the driver but you must not have more than 35% tint on the driver and passanger windows also the tint strips people put on the front of the car in missouri cant pass 4" or past the as1 line on my 03 cavalier i had a 6" strip on the front and it was illegal but i dont care most of the time only time cops will stop you for tint is if your doing something stupid like speeding or wreckless driving or showing off most of the time they dont look for tint unless your doing stupid stuff just letting you know what i know from experiance i got a warning for my tint one time and got a ticket another cause i was driving too fast in a residuntal (spelling) area ticket for my tint was 75 + 25 court fee but its only really a fix it ticket again most the time tint is a warning or fix it ticket from what i can remember

I just had my front two windows done at 35%. The samples on the wall at the shop (in business for 25 yrs) had "illegal" on all samples except 50%. He said that the legal limit in CT is 35% but if you add the factory tint (about a 85%) and then add a 35% tint, you will net around a 27%. Still illegal but they should leave you alone.

He also listed which towns around the area will pull you over if you have 20% or darker tint. I opted for the 35% just in case.

It looks great and I can still see outside at night.

I had my front windows done to 30%, the darkest that was legal at the time. Since then, Georgia's thrown the tint restrictions out the window. I'm not gonna mess with it though.

Look around town. Do a lot of folks have a dark tint up front? While practically every state has strict laws, many don't enforce them. For example, I got my Fronts 20% to match the rear. Looks hot. MI law states you can't do ANY tint more then 4" from the top of the window. Whatever! Tons of people rolling with darker tints than mine, and I've only had a single buddy that actually got pulled over for his tint (limo on a black mustang, DUH!). I've never been bothered.

Don't think 'Is this illegal?'. Just think 'Do I have cool cops in my area?'

exactly... and my local cops are not "cool" LOL. I just got my truck tinted. 5% on the back sides and the rear window.... nothing up front. Thats the law in my state, so i stuck with it. I wish i could do any kinda of % in the front but i can't.

Is the tint a film or a spray application. I really dont think they will mess with a truck as much as a rice burner . The tint does give the cab a more even look for windows.

I have 35% on the fronts and it's lighter than the back... Maybe 20% would be about right.
