Adding Keyless Entry
Adding Keyless Entry
Hi,
My buddy is picking up a new F 150 XLT. It has Power Door Locks and Remote Keyless Entry. He wants to add the numeric keypad entry, the one that is built into the door handle. My question. Is the wiring harness already set up for this or must the harness be changed? Is there additional electronics that need to be added? If there is additional electronics are they part of, built into, the door handle assembly or is it an 'under the dash' module? The dealer is giving him the runaround. Wants to sell him some add on, glue on the door, module.

Stick on
The stick on one will work fine... That is what they use on the explorers... If not, you need to run the wires, then change out the door handle... A lot of work. Plus the stick on one is only like a hundred bones...
Stick On
mjninke,
My buddy doesn't want to go with the stick on. He's trying to negotiate with the dealer for the factrory door handle unit and is trying to assess the cost and complexities involved. Thanks for your input.

You have remote entry now?
You just want to add the pad on the drivers door?
You don't want to use the stick-on?
Then your choice is to buy the factory door handle that comes with the keypad. The wiring looks normal enough.
The best way is the stick on. It's really another fob type remote, that has a touch combo. You train the truck to it just like you do with a third key fob remote.
Remember to do all three at the same time. Instructions are in the handbook I think. And with the stick on.
Now if you don't have keyless entry from ford, it's a different ballgame.
any questions?

I have seen the handle with the keypad on e-bay for as little as 25-50 bucks. Not lately though. Check with the vendor, Breadmanjr, or one of the others, or buy it from any of the good Ford parts vendors. I know of at least four that can sell you any ford part. Price will be higher. If you have the Ford factory remote, I have read that it is an easy install. But I think you will have to have it 'turned on' in the PCM, and that means more money. Frankly, the stick on's are pretty practical, and you can get creative with them. I helped my neighbor install his behind the cab, out of site.
I don't have the Ford keyless, and the stick ons only work with the factory ford setup.

Most likely the hadle assembly and the key pad are seperate parts. So you would need to buy the handle and the key pad. I just bought a set of LT handles and I am about 99.9% sure (Since the havent came in yet) that the drivers door handle only has the holes for the pad....I will have to take me pad out and put it in it. At least looking at the pic on the computer thats the way it looked.

I was going to buy one but since my truck did not have the Ford remote I was advised that it would not work without extensive wiring.
