It seems kind of like the way computers are designed to go faster and faster, they keep increasing the speed with time... with trucks they keep bumping the Cubic inches... to keep people getting new trucks every couple of years... it works too. GG

I will just put a supercharger on this 04 and some 4:56 gears and WHAMO! You get to smoke some Hemi's. Alot cheaper to do then just up and buy a new truck in a couple of years.

Come on Whipple get that Supercharger ready!

To give the F150 some more speed, they really should offer a 5-Speed auto, and adjust the ratios accordingly.

People wonder how is it that a Nissan Titan with 300 hp (Same as F150 5.4L) can accelarate so much faster. The weight difference between the 2 trucks isn't that much, but the Nissan has a 5-Speed auto, same as the Hemi too.

Ford, give us a 5-Speed!
This is OH SO TRUE !!! The gearing has ALOT to do with it. Get some 3.73's or 4.10 in your F-150 and you'll be right there.

"2007 Ford F-150 : New Hemi-caliber V-8 launches with the F-150 and will spread to other trucks and even cars in the Ford portfolio. Still in development, this 6.2-liter engine will produce around 350 horsepower. " -Motor Trend

I can't wait that long...I'll just settle with the 5.4 3V, 300 horse and throw some mod's at it

350 is not upping the anti that much. I believing after some mods I plan on next year I should be getting 330 - 340 out of my 5.4 and getting much better gas milage than that 6.2 will probably get. I think they will need to put out closer to 400hp to get people to jump on it. also I suspect they will eliminate the 4.6 in the f150 when they ad the 6.2. even right now I dont see why any one would choose a 4.6 as it is wimpier than the 5.4 and gets the same gas milage. seems like a no brainer. the truck feels too heavy right now for any thing weaker that the 5.4.

A better explanation would be the torque numbers. Thats what gets these trucks up and moving fast not horsepower. I agree with everyone on Dodge being very optomistic in their hp. rating.

a 7.1L hemi will be following shortly afterwards, possibly 2006/2007. dodge is also adding an additional 5-10hp to the current 5.7L. if ford doesn't do something, they are going to loose the hp war before they even get any troops on the field.

only time will tell if the hurricane will become reality or be shelved like the lightning.

Rising fuel costs will put a quick end to that 'war'.

Doubtful. Looks at the Germans. Benz & BMW are in an all-out HP bashfest right now, and that's even with European gas prices.

Who needs 600lbs of torque & 550HP in a 2-door luxury coupe?! That's right, we do!!!

People will suck it up and pay the gas prices. I know I will. HP rules.

I do hope that Ford does do something to up the horsepower ante like some of you are predicting. As for dodge's Hemi being underatted, I'm not so sure about that. I own an '04 S/C Lariat 4x4 now and I love my truck. I did previously own an '03 dodge ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab shortbed with the hemi and I can honestly say that the dodge would run circles around my ford. Granted I had 4.10 gears in the Dodge vs. 3.73 in the Ford which I know helps. But, that's the only area where the Dodge excelled over the Ford, my F150 rides alot better and the interior is a heck of alot nicer, now if I could only get it it to be as quick................hmmmmmmm a 6.1 liter would help.

Are you listening Ford?

Speaking of which, I'm looking at a 2005 Mercedes SL65 AMG as I type this. The boss bought it about 30 days ago but it was just delivered last week. It's got 388 miles on it so far.

Here's some specs:

AMG-built twin-turbocharged 6.0L 36-valve V-12 engine
604 hp @ 4,800-5,100 rpm
738 lb-ft @ 2,000 - 4,000 rpm
0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds

...It's just a little bit faster than my F150.
