KN Filters

Talked to K&N Filters today. They still are "working" on one (air) for the 04 F-150 5.4 Hard to believe, seeing this is such a plain square filter that has to be without a doubt the easiest most user friendly filter to change in any vehicle I ever owned.

Why would it take so longfor such a popular vehicle. Engineering???

Greg

Airflow, sensors and computers. Change the airflow characteristics and sensors give different readings and the computer thinks something is wrong and "Bingo" check engine light comes on. See threads about all the cold air induction kits and check engine lights and you will know why K&N wont release their product until they know it wont hurt anything.

I've gave up on waiting for K&N to get their filter on the market. I ordered a Green Filter. Seems like it works alright to me. Design and quailty look pretty close to what a K&N would be.

Got mine from Carolina Classic Trucks

So you put in a Green Filter...????
What kind of results did you get ....
Any change in milage...
Any noticable change in pick up
Any change in engine sound during "TAKEOFF"
IF you used K&N in the past what are your thoughts ????????
thx

I'd like to know also...I don't want to wait on K&N if there is an equal product already available! Thanks.

OK, so tell me how a free flow air filter can help your mileage with FUEL INJECTION? Your truck will not run any richer or leaner, you may even hurt your mileage by moving more air (and fuel) at WOT.

If your talking about a "drop in" replacement filter.....I bought the
K&N filter for my 01 F-150 (about $ 50.00), didn't notice a bit of difference.

I'll ditto anaheim re: K&N on my '97 5.4...only change was an increase in induction noise. IMO, any 'improvement' in performance is all in one's mind!

To tell you the truth, I don't really notice any difference, nor did I expect to. My MPG may be getting a bit better, but I think that may have to do with just getting the engine broken in. I've only got 2800 miles on it.
I plan on having this truck a long time and just the advantage of having an air filter that will last a while is a plus for me. I had a K&N in a Chrysler Sebring (I know, not much of a comparison to a F-150) and didn't notice much of a change. Maybe a slight (and I mean slight) increase in MPG.

I am impressed with the construction of the Green Filter. It is really put together well. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a long term filter, but don't expect miracles.

So the only benefit is the life of the filter? I didn't see how it could affect performance without setting off the check engine light!?! A lot of people that added an intake say the check engine light comes on because of the added airflow or whatever....so what is the K&N or Green Filter supposed to do performance wise that is so great?
