Angry Hard to shut tailage!

Folks,

I have noticed that every few times I go to close my tailgate that it won't grab on the striker posts and catch. I have to slam it a few time bofore it will "catch and stay". Anyone else having this issue?

My truck was made at the Kansas City Plant.... not that is matters...

I have a similar problem on the left side of my tailgate.
When I close it the cable gets caught between the tailgate and the bed and prevents it from closing completely.
Now I just make sure the cable doesn't get caught when I am closing the tailgate and I have no problems.

Take it to your dealer and get it fixed.

a while back i was driving and i heard the sound you seem to be describing. i hadnt shut the left side supercab back door all the way. the drivers door was shut so the two latched together but they werent hooked to the car. i was just messed up when i closed the back door. im sure you havent made the same mistake i have but i could have been a posibility.

ristuccia,

This problem is with the tailgate, not the doors.

Are you messed up now?

Just jokes!

Have you checked the hinge points? I have noticed that it is EXTREMELY easy to take the tailgate off. In fact there have been 4 or 5 times that I have pulled the tailgate back instead of up while trying to close it, and the hinge guide releases. Maybe it's not set all the way into the hinge?

If you dont see anything obvious, then take it to the dealer and let them fix it. It may just need an adjustment.

No problems with mine.
I could throw this tailgate through the back of the cab its so easy to close.
Its nothing like my 98, 99, and 02 tailgate, it was a workout to get those closed.

Well you could be in the same situation as I am in "bowtie world"

GM Recalls 4 Million Pickups

I got my recall letter yesterday. Here's a quote from the letter:

"Until stainless steel support cables can be installed on your vehicle, do not STAND, SIT, or APPLY LOADS directly onto the tailgate when it's in the full open (horizontal) positions. .... Additionally, when loading or unloading cargo from the pickup box, the tailgate should be removed."

So the grass is definitely not greener on the other side. I only wish I had a few more payments down and the new F150 could be sitting in the driveway sooner rather than later. Live and learn.

Anyway just thought you guys might appreciate a little insight into the wonderful world of GM trucks. I have a truck bed which I should not load without removing the tailgate......the Blue Oval looks better every day.

As for you ford2004F150, even if it doesn't shut at least you can stand on it and it probably isn't going to fall off.

striker

The striker is adjustable. It probably just need a slight adjustment.
