AUX Wiring Harness

Has anyone heard an update for the release of the wiring harness so the AUX button will function with an aftermarket DVD? I know this was in the works but don't know if anything has been made available.

I sent an E-mail to Rambunctious about this a couple of weeks ago. He replied back to me and said that he had actually forwarded my E-mail to his bosses as an indication of the demand for this product. As of last week, he had no information on the release date but said he would post something as soon as he has more information. As you probably know, Rambunctious is a Chief Engineer for the company that makes the overhead rail system, Johnson Controls.

Here is a quote from his E-mail:

"...We are now waiting on quotes for the production harness builds.
I'll keep you and the other's on the board posted.

thanks for the interest"

DarkNight, Right now the AUX input is an oem plug on the back of your stock HU. These guys are wondering when the plug that goes into the deck that will give the RCA (or simillar) plugs to add XM, Sirius, Ipod, etc. Problem is a new protocol for the HU or something like that.

I emailed soundgate.com about this issue and received the following response...

"We are working on an interface, but at this point have no e.t.a at all for this interface. Thanks CHET."

I would like to clarify as to not mis-inform anyone.

sorry wwblue.... if i miscommunicated an answer to your question. I appreciate your interest.

the harness we are pursuing is to enable the installation of our DVD into rail F150's that were not built with a DVD. i.e. you could order a factory dvd through accessories(with this harness) to add to your rail.

this harness will do nothing without the dvd as the dvd has the software to commmunicate via canbuss protocol to the radio head.

however, if you choose to buy this dvd. it has aux inputs. one touch of the aux button on the radio enables the dvd , a second touch enables the dvd's aux input. This is how i use my sat radio into the radio head with the aux. and with headphones, the kids can listen to the movie, and I can listen to sat radio, or if we choose, the other way around.... or they can listen to fm radio, while i listen to sat radio.... and so on....

So, anyway.......because of teh CANbuss protocol needed to enable the aux input, whoever does come up with an aftermarket harness , will have to have some circuitry and software module to enable this radio's aux. not just a harness

hope this helps

Ramb

So what your saying is i can't go buy a DVD player for my truck and just hook it up to the aux connector in the back of my radio without this harness?

SR89, your question leaves alot of variables but all ending in the same answer, Yes.

The only trucks outfitted with the needed harness are trucks ordered from the factory with DVD. In order to install a Ford (Johnson controlls) DVD you will need the harness from Ford (Johnson controlls) to hook it to the stock hu. Or for an aftermarket DVD you will need to wait for Soudgate or the like to come up with what Ramb mentions in his last paragraph in the post above. Sucks getting in on a new model year, Ehhh?
