does our F150's have this neat feature??

I've been driving a 2004 Dodge quadcab loaner truck for almost a week now. Just realized tonight that the door locks will not "lock" with the switch if the key is still in the ignition. I thought to start with the switch was bad, pulled the key out and tried to lock once more and it worked. Double checked and realized this was a "feature" and not a "goof".

I hope to have my F150 FX4 back SOON, but until I do does anyone know if our trucks have this neat feature, which would really help prevent the embaresment of locking your keys in?

Yes my F-150 has that feature....

You can hit the lock switch and it locks, BUT a second later it unlocks for you, letting you know those keys are still in the ignition.

THANKS F-150!

Anyone know how to disconnect this feature?
Why do you need it with a keypad and remote?
Tough to keep the AC running while you run into the party store in downtown Detroit!

You need a remote starter. With the ford installed starter, you can leave the truck running, take the keys and lock the truck. It has security features that if one gets in somehow and touches the brakes it will shut down the engine.

The remote start works great, but if you are in the store for more than 15 minutes the engine automatically shuts off.

Easy "fix" for this going in somewhere and leaving it running problem ... get a two-piece keychain. I have one. The ignition key to my truck is on one end of it, and the keyfob (the black thing with the lock/unlock and alarm panic button) is on the other end. It has a quick-release button to separate the two pieces whenever you want to. Leave the truck running, disconnect the keyfob end of the keychain, get out, close the door, and press the door lock button on the keyfob. The doors stay locked when you do that. This, of course, is provided by the standard, Ford keyless entry system if your vehicle is so equipped.

4u2catch listen up! A lesson in keypad 101

SilverDrgn you are doing too much work messing with that silly clicker, unless you don't have keyless entry!

Here is what you do, leave the truck running shut the door, push both 7/8 9/0 on the key pad at the same time, LOCKED problem solved!

Just make sure you know your code to unlock it.

Too much work ?!? Both yours and my suggestion involve only pushing two buttons. Yours are together, mine is pushing them separately. First one quick releases the keyfob - it is quite effortless - no work at all really. Second locks the doors. And no need to remember the keypad code to get back in since I've already got the keyfob in my pocket.

I think you're just lazy! :) j/k

I am lazy!:D

And I hate diggin' in my pocket for that silly key thing, just something else I goof with....

Your idea, would be good too though!

:beers:

The best part about remote start is you can take your key with you, and some joker can't bust a window and drive off with your truck while you're in the store.

Thanks for all your help
I have an after market remote start and this works perfect now that I have tried it
Would not want to spend more than 15 minutes in a downtown Detroit party store anyway
PS the autostart I have has an adjustable length of run option
