Angry Turn Signal Failure

I picked up my 2004 SCrew 150 on New Years Eve. Today the right turn signal failed.

Lights and Fog Lights ON - Left Turn Signal ON - I then flashed my lights twice to a car I wanted to go ahead of me. The right turn signal began making a fast clicking sound.

The mirror signal does not light, The right front signal does not light but the rear right signal does light but at the same fast rate as the clicking sound.

I ran it ovber to the dealera nd they basically had no clue and stated they had never seen this before now. The dealer claims that the issue is in some switching box in the steering column. I am now driving a 2003 Taurus with a crack in the windshield as a loaner until this is fixed.

Between the black blobs that appear in the tail lights when they get wet and now this, my first F150 has not been a good experience.

sorry to hear that goomfatch, alot of folks will say that this is to be expected of a mass-produced vehicle in its first year of production.but dont despair, let your dealer fix the problem and hope that you dont have any major problems down the road like powertrain.congrats on new truck, you will like it much better after these minor problems are fixed.

Not to oversimplify this, but have you checked the bulb?

I'm sure your turn signal problem is a minor one, even though the dealer shop seems perplexed.

Don't know about the weird blobs in the taillight lenses. That *is* strange. But, again, repair should be a simple matter of replacement of the lenses.

I've had quite a few minor probs with my Screw. None of the problems is any more than just a small irritant. You have to expect this sort of thing this early in the model year of a new design. If this were a vehicle that had been in production for many years, unchanged, then I'd be pretty mad.

My 03 was just about flawless. The only problem I ever had with it was my power mirror switch on the left door went kablooey, and that was easily diagnosed and replaced under warranty.

Hang in there. Once the dealers get some experience with these new trucks, the minor glitches will go away.

Well, I hope the dealer didn't overlook this one.

I mean seriously, that is classic burned out turn signal bulb.

The Ford manual even states that if a bulb is out, the mirror indicator will not work (so as to warn you - as if the double fast blinking wasn't enough).

Tell me you did check the bulb?

Right. The same thing happened to me in my '98 last year. I wondered why the clicking was so fast, and my rear turn signal still worked. As soon as I replaced the front one everything went back to normal. So don't go too hard on him, I wouldn't have known either if it hadn't already happened to me. Most vehicles can go forever without a turn signal bulb going out since they get used so seldom... heck, some people don't use them at all!

Reminds me of the joke that says "if you see a southerner with his turn signal on, it just means he bought the car that way".

I have the samething with my tailights. The water is between the outer edge of the light and the bed. It is not in the light. As you may notice the black blobs disappear as it dries out.

Thumbs up

Turn Signal is now repaired. Thedealer replaced SW ASSY 861217 P/N 4L3Z-13K359-AAA.

Looks like a fluke since I was unable to find anyone else who has had this trouble.

Dealer had great customer service skills at all levels inthe company, they just did not have the part which delayed the repair.
