Cab Lights? Any thoughts?

I like the look of cab lights on the F-250. Ford calls them "Roof Clearance Lights." They don't show up as an option for the F-150 on the "build your own" Web link. So, a couple of questions:

1--Would they look cool on an XLT?
2--Can Ford put them on at the factory for me?
3--How difficult is it to install an after-market set?

1. Not in my opinion, but to each their own
2. No
3. Hardest part would be getting under the headliner without cracking it, once that's done it's as easy as drilling a hole for the wire and wiring it into the headlight relay

I had my dealer install them for me, no big deal and they turn on when you turn on your parking lights.

You might think about how you want them arranged before you have them do it, they can either be spaced evenly, or one on each end of your roof and 3 grouped closer together in the center of your roof.

I had mine spaced evenly, I like the look better that way, although the other way is standard nowadays.

I like them too, and miss them from my F350 I traded in for my new truck. Would love to see a picture of the new F150 with them on.

Thanks for the response. Any chance there are photos?

I know there are different colors around the net. Has anyone seen them in green?

My dad said he saw one with these lights and I didn't believe him. I figured it was a super duty or something. I would love to see some pics so I can consider them for my truck!

Also, why does for call them clearance lights? What actual benifits do they offer?

The Federal DOT requires clearance marker lights on vehicles and trailers over 80 inches in width. "Clearance marker" lights identify the highest and widest parts of the body of the vehicle. The reason you can't order them on a 150 is because the vehicle is under 80 inches wide. You can order them on the 250 and 350 because the cabs are used with the dual wheel option, and they are over 80 inches.

As far as benefits for a regular pickup truck go....there are none, but they look really good! I've always ordered my 250's with the cab marker lights, and years ago, I used to install them on my 150's...but that was back in the days when the head liners were held in place with chrome trim and a few screws.

If it turns out to be a simple project to remove the head liner on the new 04 SuperCrews, I will add them to mine when it arrives.

FMCSR's as well as all State Regs specify
amber or yellow to the front and red to
the rear.

Start messing around with other colors and
you're just asking for the man to ticket you.

In Maryland, it is illegal to have red or blue lights visible from the front of the vehicle.

I know you said you wanted green ones, but I can just see a cop who is slightly colorblind thinking that they are blue...

I have a lighted sun visor on mine. I know its not what you are looking for but its an option as it does have the clearance lights.
