I went to the Darkside

I almost hate to admit it, I was in love with the 04 Ford. I drove the 4.6 and I was not impressed. I then drove the 5.4 and it was MUCH better, but the price was way more than I wanted to pay. I then gave in and purchased a new 2004 Sierra. For $22,800 otd I got a 5.3 liter engine, SLE package, extra cab, power everything, tow package, and a locking differential. I was in love with the New Ford. I could not find a Ford Dealer that could come anywhere close to the price I got on my 04 sierra on an 04 Ford. I even had a Z plan pin and I still could not get close. I will probably get an f-150 in about 3 years. (all of the bugs should be worked out by then)

I am sure we are all better knowing this detail. Good luck with your truck. You will understand though that the rest of us have chosen otherwise. See you in three years. Oh, by the way. You are now stuck with an on old (1998) technology truck with many bugs still left in it.. Not to mention serious design flaws, a sub par anti-ergonomic interior and layout, seats that you sink into, ugly headlights and a laundry list of other stuff. But seriously it is your truck and you should enjoy it. Remeber too that it is now worth about $16000 and dropping everyday as Ford, Dodge, Nissan and Toyota all have relatively new and updated models. This means that you may have to keep it a while longer than the three years you planned as you will probably be upside down for a while. Seriously again though - no hard feelings it is your money and the trucks are nice-just old-even when they are new. Just my opinion nothing more or less. You invited it with your post.

Congratulations on the new truck. You should however realize that this is a forum for the 04 Fords, and anything you say against will be null and void. No other trucks are as good as Ford...

Well, I like the new F150, but I too would probably buy a GMC or Chevy first. Chevy/GMC's are good trucks, and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I personally think the interiors are much nicer, and better laid out, but that's my opinion...

good luck... go now, I'll hold them off...

Chevy might be a good truck...but what is with the funky headlights. It looks like a Chinese front end to it. It looked a lot better in 2002... But then...none of them look as good as the new F...

.02 worth

Another new grill............

Congrats on your new truck. It's unfortunate that the GM dealers literally have to give their trucks away to clean up the lot. GMC and Chevy engineers are on the cutting edge in grill design. Consider now that is all that has changed in 5 years. Oh yeah, sorry, of course there's the Denali thing. I once watched a guy try to back up his boat at the local ramp with the rear steer. It took him a while. Keep in mind you won't be getting hot deals on those Denaliez,Msrp is around 42 and change. Chevy not only screwed up the grill, they tried to give their trucks bat eyes. Yuck!!!. Then there was the big target market Avalanche to appeal to people who couldn't decide between a SUV or a Truck. The result was a vehicle that doesn't make a good either.

So you know, I drive a 2002 Silverado 2500HD everyday. It's my company truck. Every morning I start it up and hear a motor that sounds like it's ready to throw a lifter. The dealers explaination was " They all do that,it's just a characteristic of that motor" . After about 10 minutes it warms up and the rap subsides.

I've shopped for a my new personal truck for quite some time.

In my quest for a new truck I drove the following:

2003 4x4 scab lariat...........nice truck, a little nose low, didn't
Like the seats, felt hard.
2003 gmc denali...........just a spruced up silverado

2003 Toyota Tundra.......felt great in corners under speed,
handled better than any truck I've ever driven, actually
it handled like a car. Very comfortable, but I questioned
it's ability to tow my 20ft bassboat. A good truck for
people who would use it like a car.

2004 Ford f-150 first impression.........very fresh inside and out
love the flow thru, and the drivers comfort. Solid ride, felt
very responsive and forgiving. Plenty of room in the back
of the scab. I left the dealers feeling as once again Ford
had raised the bar. New looks, New Motor, and New
interior. Not just another pick-up.

Will I pay more.........oh yeah
Will I get more..........................most definately

For now I'm a member of the "Wait Club" ordered 10/8/03

I know I'm getting the right truck, but not sure I'm buying
it from the right dealer.

As the Ford 2004's have only been out for several Months, I personally would not be so quick to boast how great they are. I just bought one and I'm starting to have some weird problems, which might be normal for a newly release vehicle but we'll see how many of these issues come up and how serious they are.

These new ones look great (depending on your tastes) but my instincts about them are bothering me...time will tell
