Angry What should I do?

I need some advice. I ordered my truck on 9/19 and still don't have a build date. I ordered a Dark Toreador Red (monotone) Scab 4x4 Lariat. My salesman doesn't have a clue and isn't much help. He told me I had a build date of 11/10 but thanks to BIGMACFX4 I now know that was a lie. There is a truck at another dealership that is very similiar to the one I ordered. Should I buy that one or wait? Will I get my $500 deposit back if I do get one from another dealer? Any help and advice would be appreciated.

GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT !!! Don't get a similar truck, otherwise you'll never be completely satisfied with it. Though it seems easy to say and hard to do, I would wait it out.

Do an online search of other dealer's inventory and see if you find the same truck. Then approach them for some better numbers. That's what I did and I got my exact truck within 24 hours.

You can use the Ford Vehicles website to find local dealers and then go to their website for inventory searches.

Good Luck

Well, I have done an online search and this is the closest one I've found. The only difference is it has heated seats and no power sliding rear window.

Just to address the deposit issue. It may vary by state but in Illinois the deposit is not considered a binding contract. The way I understand it, I would be able to get my deposit back anytime (assuming I have not taken delivery). That's not to say the dealership wouldn't try to pressure me into staying with them.

Even if it is binding if they can't deliver, I would think you could still get it back - but it could get sticky.

Call your dealer and tell them your having second thoughts about their ability to supply you wuth your order in a timely fashon and that you may want to go elsewhere and pick one out of stock. See what they say. It might do some good but probably could't hurt.
