Question Is it true?

Is it true that Ford owns Nissan? That is what I heard form my dealer when I went to go look at the Expedition.

Here is the story:
Freddy(me): No other SUV except the Nissan Pathfinder Armada has the Power Fold 3rd Row Seat right?
Salesman:Yes, but did you know that Ford owns Nissan?
Freddy:Oh really, cool, I didn't know that.

So what do yall think. I think he's right, like when I'm on the road, every now and then I see a car the resembles a Ford, but the when I see the name plate, it says Nissan. Nissan is not know for copying is it, I thought that was just Toyota.

I think your salesperson is incorrect.

Ford owns the following brands:
Ford
Lincoln
Mercury
Mazda
(in Ford's 2002 Annual report, Nissan is listed under each of these brands as a "major competitor")
Aston MArtin
Jaguar
Volvo
Land Rover

Maybe the salesperson has Mazda and Nissan confused with each other?

John

Speaking of salesmen not knowing anything. I went to a dealership a month ago and told him I wanted to order a Blazing Yellow FX4 and he said "I can't help you there." Needless to say I laughed and told him I had just looked at one down the road. I didnt buy from them.

Ya, get this. After I mentioned to a dealer that I was debating between a Ford truck and a GMC, the guy says: "Welp, you know there's not too much difference, they're basically both built under the same roof". I said WHAT are you talking about? He says "you know Ford is owned by GM".
Needless to say I didn't buy one from THEM.

I like Ford trucks, but their dealerships on average are a bit "under par" Im afraid compared to GMC, Chevy, Nissan, etc.

I think it was one of the companies that it was speculated Ford would buy a few years ago (before Land Rover buy out), but I think Nissan's debt situation kept it from happening, but Ford doesn't own Nissan.

He is confusing Mazda with Nissan. Nissan is now controlled by Renault (French).

Mazda is controlled/majority owned by Ford Motor Co. Mazda has used rebadged Ford trucks and SUV's for its lineup, and Ford will be using the Mazda 6 platform for many of it's new upcoming cars.

I guess that explains the ugliness of the new Nissan Truck. Yes...I can see it in France...The Renault Le Truck.

The Mercury Villager (a minivav) was based on the Nissan Quest. Thats probably why he said Ford own Nissan, he probably misunderstood.

GMC salespeople used to say how much 'better' there product is than chevrolet. I had to laugh when I saw a blazer that was badged chev silverado on one side and GMC high sierra on the other. Just a story at salesmen's expense.

How do you know if a salesmans lying - his lips move.
