Tagon question:
Any hints on shopping for a GOOD window tint shop?

My last truck was awful, bubbles, uneven cuts, clear glass showing, tint scratched easy, faded, etc.
My priorities then were lowest bid, I got what I paid for, but now my priorities have changed. Money is less of an issue than quality.

zacky, here's a pic for ya:

I had the windows tinted 35% on mine. At night they look pretty dark, but in the day you can see in pretty easily. I actually had 18% on at first, but it just felt too dark inside for me with the black interior, so the guy switched it to 35% for me. You can see the 35% in the second album of my gallery.

ok heres the best advise I can give you on tint. I have had every car or truck I owned tinted. And have never had a problem. Make sure whoever does it gives you a lifetime warranty on it. All mine have had it, and it covered scratches, peeling or any bubbles. If they can give you that kind of gaurantee then you should have no problems. I was just quoted $60 to do my two front doors in any % tint on my FX4 Scab (when it gets here) with the lifetime warranty.

Another thing is that when its put on it goes on wet and they squegee it out. Sometimes there will be bubbles in it that they cant get out AT THAT TIME, you should be able to take it back to them after it dries for a few days and they will be able to fix it, since it will be easier to work with once it has dried. It happened to my Mustang and they fixed it no prob.

thing i`m scared of is i`m a smoker

Zacky:

I am a smoker (wish I was not).... what problems are you thinking you might experience? Using a good quality film installed by folks who know what they are doing backed by a lifetime warranty (as mentioned already) and you should have no problems - be sure to only clean with water or product that specifically states it is for tinted windows.

I got the front windows ($50) on my Scab done a couple of weekends ago with 28% which is darker than the back windows by just a little bit but with the light that comes in from the front winshield it all looks the same. They where showing me some cars with 50% on the winshield ($50), haven't maid my mind up yet on that. It comes with a lifetime warranty that is transferable to one new owner.

They did a good job and only took about 30 min. I searched for a while trying to find a place that would talk strait about what was legal and what would match the back windows best . I got a lot of "we will do what ever you want" and other fast talk til I found this little shack where the guy just spoke plain strait english.

I will take photos when I get back home this weekend.

I did mine at 20 %.

Allstar 11-12-2003 08:33 AM

I had mine done to match the privacy glass and also had a strip across the top of the windshield done. This guy had a computer program that cuts all the windows to fit. He did have to free hand the windshield strip. Cost was $55 for all 3 pieces. He noted that the front side windows are smaller that earlier models and used less material, he charged $65 to do my wifes Trailblazer the same...

KHUGHES53 11-12-2003 11:36 AM

I just had my driver & passenger side windows done. Unfortunately in Texas the darkest legal tint on the front windows is 20%.........but still looks sharp on my black truck :)

20% on mine...

Wow some Great looking Trucks :)
Looks like 20% will do the job I`m Really thinking of getting the Windshield done also

This is my Lariat with 15% on the front two windows. Since the photos were taken in my garage, they appear to be a tad bit darker than they really are. I am happy with the darkness of the four door windows but unhappy with the rear window. I think I am going to take that to the tint shop next week and get some 15% put on it too. That should darken the other four windows up a little bit more too.

15% looks awesome. I'm scared to have that dark a tint put on though. CA laws say no tint at all, although looking around many people have it. I don't want to be the person that gets nailed for it. How do you take tint off if you get ticketed?

sho99fornow 11-12-2003 06:24 PM

I understand you can peel the tint right off if need be. However, at the tint shop, they did have "remove tint" on the menu board with a price about the same as adding the tint. In Florida, I believe that 20% is the legal limit so I guess I am pushing my luck. I like the way it looks though.
