Has anyone, besides me, purchased Forde's bug guard? I picked up my Lariat last Thursday and bought the bug guard from parts and just today had a minute to check it out. It appears to have tabs that must be fit between the grill and the hood with two small screws and clips to hold the end of the wing in place. Before I proceed with the install, has anyone installed one of these on their truck? Did you encounter any problems with alignment of the "grill" to the hood. Your help is appreciated. I am also looking at the Extang RT soft tonneau; looks great. Has anyone installed the RT on their truck and how do you like it. Thanks again for your input.

 

Sounds exactly like the install for the Bugflector II.
Holes for the two outboard screws should already be there, VERY easy install.

I would put a couple pieces of tape on the hood to indicate where the original grill position was to aid in re-alignment...No need to totally remove the grill just loosen it.

I purchased and installed the Ford bug guard on my Lariat last week. It's pretty straightforward...unfortunately the "directions" are just a series of pictograms without detailed explanations.

The 1st step it to remove the grill, which is held in place by 10 screws...2 on each supporting bracket on the sides of the grill and 6 underneath the front of the hood.

I used some small spring clamps to hold the bug guard in place and made adjustments to make sure it was centered. Once it was centered, I used a pencil to mark where the clips needed to be placed to match up with the approriate holes in the guard. The I removed the clamps and bug shield to afix the clips. Once the clips are on, it's just a matter of holding the guard back up and reattaching the grill with the guard sandwiched in between it and the hood. Leave the grill screws somewhat loose so you can make slight adjustments during and after attaching the guard to the clips. An extra set of hands would be helpful, but not necessary when you go to reattach the grill, just to make sure you don't drop the grill or scrape the hood with the guard.

I too have this bug guard & would agree with John's advise above. Pretty easy install. Looks good too.

 

When I installed my bug gaurd (Ford), I didn't remove the grille entirely, just loosened it enough to slip the tabs of the bug gaurd in. It helped to have something holding the guard in place while I figured out placement. It was a pretty straight forward job.

 

I installed a "LUND" a few weeks ago, it's mostly like the FORD one, however the wife noticed tonight that I have a Rattle near my drivers door. It seems to be actually "wind noise" around the windshield post and mirrors, mostly on the drivers side. It is the first time I have had the truck on a trip at hwy speeds since I put on the defector and I don't remember any noise like this one the way from the dealer a week or so ago. I am wondering if I have changed the "aero" with the shield.

Anyone else have or having this problem, Or am I just not use to having a truck so quiet I hear every little noise ????
