Ouch,, sorry to hear about the rock chip. The first one is always the most painful. I never even thought about that issue when I ordered my FX4 (not in yet). Just one more thing to worry about I guess. Still would not have stopped me from ordering it though.

Well,,, I'll have to make sure to take some pics after I pick it up,, so I can document how it "used" to look.

Be thankful that the rock didn't hit the leading edge of the aluminum hood! That's why I'm a believer in hood shields...it saved my encounter with an acorn at 60mph.

Aluminum hood? First I've heard of that. All F150's? Since when?

Let's see, aluminum hood, plastic flareside panels. Any other body part not steel?

F150s and Light Duty ('97 250s) since the '97 model year have aluminum hoods. Try sticking a magnet to your hood. If it sticks slightly, it's because of some steel reinforcements under the hood. Now, sticka magnet to the fender and feel the difference. This is a great way to win some pocket change on bets. I even won $5 from a Ford salesman on this one! Also, when you're waxing or otherwise 'reefing' on the hood, you can feel the aluminum 'flowing' under your hand pressure.

I posted a similar concern a few weeks back.

I saw a monotone True Blue FX4 on a dealer's lot and it looked very sharp, but I can't see any way to keep the painted bumper from showing wear and tear, especially the front bumper that takes the brunt of flying debris.

The only way I see to protect it is with

Invinca-Shield

Invinca-Shield Website

or

This will make you feel better!

I was on my way to work on Wednesday and it was really foggy...
You guessed it... the road went right and I went straight. I did $7000 dollars worth of damage to the truck. I'm sick. I'll post picture later, but I've got to say these trucks are tough. My truck went almost completely airborne (I was only going about 30mph.) Anyway, I went through a pile of rocks and the front end of the truck came down hard on the pavement. It's hard to explain, but I landed on the road. It still drives great! I was so suprised when I got it back out on the road and it didn't pull one way or the other and it's still very quite inside (just like before). Insurance is going to fix it, but it still sucks. I'll post pictures as soon as I can, but I work too freakin' much.

I have a Black FX4 SCrew with all the upgrades... beautiful truck...but it's broke now. The crappy thing is that I've driven crap all my life and never wrecked, but once I get what I've been saving for 3 years... I crash it. Oh well. My girlfriend put it best: "***** happens".
