Skid Plates

Has anyone checked into the possibility of adding skid plates aftermarket?

Why not just order the FX4 skidplates from the Ford parts dept.?

I had them add them to my Lariat. Apparently they just bolt on. The ones from the factory aren't painted and are bright and shiny under there. The one I got is painted so is less obvious. Never occurred to me to take a picture of it. So yes it is possible.

It sounds like you didn't get factory ones - where did you go? Price?

I suppose if you want them because you actually want to off-road... then maybe aftermarket are the way to go. You would probably get thicker metal thats less likely to bend when you hit a rock.

If you are doing it for looks... whats the point. No one can see under there unless you have a big lift.

Got them from the dealer as part of my deal. They are Ford skid plates. Identical to the factory except for being painted. I compared the one they put on mine to one that was on a FX4 on their lot.

Do the Ford skid plates get in the way for an oil change (i.e. drain plug and filter removal)?

No idea. I don't plan on doing my own oil changes so I don't tend to pay a bit of attention to where that stuff is. I will say that there are some holes towards the back of the plate. So it's quite possible that stuff is available. Easiest way to find out is go to a dealer and look at one installed.
