Question Wheel moldings for XLT?

When I ordered my Shadow Grey/silver XLT, my plans were to order from Ford parts the silver wheel moldings from a silver monotone FX4. ..surprise! The FX4 monotone (?) has the grey moldings. And, the Lariats don't come in silver. So, I guess I can order the FX4 pebble-grained grey moldings or e.g. white Lariat moldings (using the stock white for a primer) and have them painted silver (why Ford? they're cheaper than aftermarket moldings I've priced).

Question: what about aftermarket paint adhesion to moldings? Will they chip/peel or any other problems? Would paint adhere better to the white Lariat moldings or pebble-grained grey FX4 moldings? Any thoughts from y'all with molding/paint experiences would be welcomed.

Unhappy

My dealer told me that the wheel moldings DO NOT come colored! They have to be painted in the body shop and the whole thing will be pretty spendy. Molding would run about $350 and labor would be about $250. These dont just stick-on. There are holes everywhere. I just gave up and will leave the XLT the way it came. Maybe later someone will come up with after market for less. JT
