white vs. black two-tone Screw Lariat?
white vs. black two-tone Screw Lariat?
I ordered a white/Az. beige two-tone Screw Lariat 4x4 and I am considering changing my order to black/Az. beige two-tone. There are two reasons: 1.) I already own a 2001 white/Az. beige Screw Lariat 4x4 that I will be trading in and want something a little different 2.) I can't stand the black door handles on the new 2004. They really stand out on the white! I don't know why Ford put base level generic looking black door handles on a 38K dollar truck. I have color coded door handles on my 2001 Screw and they have color handles on the 2004 Expedition but not on the F-150. Well enough of that, I just wanted to take an informal poll: White/Az. Beige two-tone Screw vs. Black/Az. Beige two-tone? I have never had a black truck. Blacks looks awesome when it is new, but I hear it is difficult to keep it looking that way.
I have a black/tan lariat and absolutely love it. Here is a link to some pics.

I had a dark red/tan two tone 98 scab, and really liked the car. When I was looking at new trucks, I was flipping between getting a black/tan, and a dark green/tan - originally I thought I wanted the green/tan, but the dealer found a truck locally with everything I wanted on it in black/tan, so I got it and am VERY happy with it. I think there isn't a sharper looking color combo out there - just my 2 cents!

In regards, to the black door handles. I'm sure some Ford sales manager would say that the black handles are less prone to scratches on a "work" truck. Which is true, but I think they did it to save a dime. If you look at the other new Dodge, GM and etc. pickups they have black door handles too. I call it lemming marketing, with the beancounters blessing.
I was kind of disappointed that my 97 had a tailgate handle that was black. Now you don't get any painted handles.
Don't get me wrong, I like the truck (even though I haven't ordered one yet), but I did like some of the details on my 97.
I do like the black mirrors/handle look on the Fx4, but I thought they should have at least painted them on the Lariat to give it an even more upscale appearance.

I dont mind the black mirrors and handles. First, probably because I have a black truck, and they blend well, and second, I kind of like the utilitarian look of them. In any event, I love the black truck.
I guess I dont object to them because I have a black truck too...But...I will say it is one of the main reasons I did not get the white truck...The black on black looks great...I even prefer the non painted handles. They will look better of the years.

IMO black looks best on the FX4 because it matches the grill. The truck ends up having 2-3 finishes on the exterior. Painted handles and mirrors would look better on the lariats because they have chrome grills and bumpers. Black handles and mirrors adds one more color to the mix. A 2-tone truck might be blue, tan, chrome, and black. Some people might think there is a little too much going on there. I have seen a Lariat with this color scheme in the galleries, and I think it looks sweet! I can see where people are coming from on the painted mirrors and handles though.
