Changing the Blue in the Oval

Sure I love the Blue in the Ford Oval...here it comes...but with my red truck with black accents I'd like to color the blue either black or red. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Thanks

Thanks for the link. Is the 04 emblem on the tailgate glued on as well?

I'd be willing to bet it is bolted on just like the front. You probably have to remove the tailgate handle access panel to get at it. But again I'm just giving my best guess here on that one..

Yea it's kind of large and right in the middle of the tailgate but it still might be glued on. Anybody from inside FoMoCo have any info on this? I'd like to know before I take off my tailgate bedliner to investigate. Thanks

The Tailgate oval is affixed using 3M Acrylic Foam Tape. No Bolts, No Screws, just good ole' Tape.

However, this oval is manufactured in a different manner than past ovals. Notice the slight crown in the part, rather than it being flat. At any rate, the link Jackslapp provided may not be appropriate for this construction.

Be sure to follow the author's advice and purchase another oval for your tailgate before trying this mod.

I would be interested to hear what anyone who orders the emblems off F150_FX4_2004's website posted - that seems like a cool mod, I wonder how easy and professional it would look

I don't think the emblem on ebay is even an 04. I also know that the other site he linked to doesn't show any 04 emblems either. So it looks like it will be a DIY job.

If you want to make the change in color with as little headache as possible, go to www.svtcustoms.com and see if he has an 'overlay' (i.e. gelcoated sticker) for your badge. I'd bet if he doesn't have one currently, he will very soon. I changed the tailgate badge on my '01 SCrew to black and silver to match the rest of the trim/moldings on the truck, and it was a very simple affair. I think the end result was pretty good. What do you think?

Good luck.
