Feeling Underpowered?
Get the 5.4 with 3:73 gears. Put into drive. Step on gass. Smoke tires. Smile!
I take all my buddies for rides in my FX-4 Screw and they're all impressed with the power. Low end torque is where it's at these days. Squeeling tires when taking off is cool. Hi RPM HP doesn't do that. Thats why the Fords are beating the Hemi's from Light to Light and barely losing out in the 1/4 mile times. I've got 33 inch tires too!!
It's true though, the truck is so smooth, stable, and quiet I constantly find myself going a LOT faster than I should be. You roll down the windows and you can get a sample of that awesome exhaust note. Did I mention I love this truck??

I'm constantly having to back off the pedal to get within the speedlimit. It does seem like it's going as fast as the speedometer states because it's so smooth. I've come real close several times to getting pulled over. Mine has plenty of power, you can keep the GERMAN Hemi
Cool discussion! Just thought I 'd give my two cents worth...
Both my Marauder and F-150 didn't really feel as "fast" as they should or get good mileage until about 7-10k miles. Until about 7k in the Marauder, I couldn't chirp the tires off the line. My F-150 with the 5.4L was the same way until about 10K miles. I also saw gains of 1-2 mpg at this time as well.
I think (and hope) once all of you 2004 3v 5.4L owners start cracking the 10k barrier, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise as the engine wakes up.
The Nissan Titan looks to be a great truck (and darn fast to boot), but as far as Car and Driver's performance numbers for the Marauder go I wouldn't put any faith in them. Folks with stock Marauders are turning mid to high 14's with 0-60 times in the 6.5 second range, once they are broken in. So far, the fastest stock time (with timeslip) posted over on mercurymarauder.net is 14.560 @ 97.217 mph.
Besides, if you want to have the fastest truck get a Lightning!

I don't think he meant this to sound as if he was complaing about quarter mile times. But rather more of a comparison with other trucks. No one wants to have a truck that doesn't get up to speed properly and I think that's his concern. If you wanted to race a truck you'd obviously just get a truck that was built with "speed" in mind. But, the reason posts like this are abundant is because the 04' F-150 is considerably slower than the competition on take off, which DOES matter because a) you're not only driving around a boat, but b) could bring problems with getting up to adequate speed in sufficient time.
this is a classic discussion! It always depends on what your using the vehicle for. My father's 02 Superduty only has the 5.4 with 4.10 gears and the damn thing feels like it is gonna pull itself apart when you romp on the gas. I think most of the perceptions on the 04 is that maybe it is a little too quiet and the torque delivery is too smoothe. Just my take, I have not drove a 04 with the 5.4 yet.
i got my new screw in April with teh 5.4 and 3:55 LS and it is just fine with power and all i can say is i hope buy the time i get my next truck it will be 06 so i will have planty of info about it but i think everyone is wright about it being smoth about it fealing slow and i sure hope it is not slower then my screw but mine runs way hard now that is has 7,500 now
I can tell you this: I went to lunch with my boss today and I drove my 04 Supercrew with 5.4. He mentioned that I would be getting many tickets in my new truck and I said no because I actually drove slower. He just laughed and told me that I had just been going 65 in a 45 zone!
