Ford Radio: 6-CD In-Dash Radio

I have a 2004 F-150 with the in-dash 6-CD Radio. The clock on the radio does not keep time. If I set the clock, turn the truck off and then start the truck up again sometimes the clock displays the wrong time. Most of the time it is off by hours.

The funny thing is all the preset stations and other features on the radio are never lost.

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? I am wondering if there is a problem with the 6-CD radios as this is the second radio put in the truck that has the same problem. Everything else in the truck works fine.

Any input will be appreciated.

Sounds more like an electrical problem. But that baffles me since the station presets stay in memory.

Re:time loss

It is possible that the time is not stored in the radio.
Several G M cars store time in the body control module.
The radio head is just a display.I am not sure if 04 f150
has this or not but this is a new model and Ford has
made a lot of changes. Not likeky two radios bad with
same problem.

A radio has both a switched and constant 12v current going to it. Most radios will lose time if the constant 12v is absent meaning a fuse would be blown. However normally that would involve losing stations also. I have yet to work on the new Ford radios and don´t have an answer as to why the stations would be there but would suggest you check the fuses marked radio or ACC. They can be either inside the truck or under the hood or both. Most of the time one will be in the truck and be the switch and the constant fuse will be under the hood. At least that is how it has been. Hope that helps. Tomorrow I will go and pull the schematic and see if I have anything further on the new trucks.

Could be the clock has it's own lithium battery to keep time even if you disconnect the starting battery? Perhaps if this battery exists it is bad or not making contact.

Take it back to your dealer.... and get a new radio. It shouldn't being do that.

The truck may have a single Real Time Clock (RTC for you computer people). This provides a timing source for the entire system. If this one device is not functioning correctly, it could affect the entire system.

On a computer, if the RTC is not correct you will commonly see the system clock not working right. Even replacing the battery will not correct it.

Could be the same thing. Maybe the dealer needs to install a new computer module? Assuming the RTC is built onboard the computer module.

Does anyone have the wire pinout for the new radios? Check and see if there is a timing wire or something of that sort.

One last question. For those of you with the 6-CD radio...does the radio suffle through the disks (once in a while) when you start the truck?

Mine has never done that shuffle business. There has been something I pushed that had it spit all 6 CD's out while I was fumbling to catch the cascade of my favorite tunes.

Do you have the audtiophile? Isn't it awesome?

Also, anyone know what the time in the trip computer is set to and how to re-set it?

The timer in the message center is to keep track of travel time. Start it by pressing the reset button, pause it by pressing the reset button, again... and reset it by holding the reset button.

If you hold the eject button, all the cds are ejected.

I hope you were exaggerating, did they actually fall out? I would think it'd wait till you grabed the one sticking out before it spit out the next one.

Well I took the truck back to the dealer. They said they called Ford and were told that everything is stored inside the radio itself. Ford told them to change the radio.....again.

We'll see what happens with the third radio????
