Next redesign
Well the then all new '97 model hit the dealers in January 1996 and the 2004 was at all dealers by Sept '04, so that's 7yrs/8 m and 8 model years. Most people thought the gap was a little to far apart given the pressure from the competition. I predict the next gap will be shorter and the next all new F-150 will be a 2010 model to debut in Sept 2009. Just a 6 year wait. Keep in mind the added pressure from Toyota and Nissan. There was a 15 year strech where it was basically just Ford vs. GM. (Dodge was not a real factor) From what I read, the next all new Chevy will be 2007 model yr, Dodge @ 2008, Toyota @ 2005 and Nissan will proably follow Fords lead. So by 2009 the Ford will be old. The interesting thing is that in Ford ad's currently running, they say they tested this new truck for 5 years. Basically they have to start asap!
Has anyone noticed the pattern which I think Ford goes by? EI- Early 70's 150s had round head lights. Late 70's -early 80's square. And then late 80's more rounded body and wrap around lights. Early 90's again a some what squared body and lights, then 97 with the drastically rounded everything. Now with 04, very square. All changes are withing 5-7 years. Just a thought.
