Dealer Vehicle Search System
Dealer Vehicle Search System
I have question about the system dealers use to search for trucks over the whole state. Is it available to anybody who wants to search online or something?
I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT www.fordvehicles.com
my dealer had a screen on his computer to search for trucks that match what i want anywhere in CA (so he said). I want to do that on my own just to see what is available if I change colors or drop options or something, but on the dealer search on Fordvehicles.com you have to go dealer by dealer. that is a pain. i just want to search anywhere in the state or at least in SoCal. is this kind of search available for someone not at all affiliated with Ford?
if not, I will just go down to my dealer and have him step aside while I play. thanks.

The Ford search on the web site is a true pain. You can have the dealer use his with out all the limitations of the web site. It is kind of interesting to see how regional dealers equip their stock, all the loaded 2 wheel drives in St. Louis, and 4x4s with-out LS rear-ends
I don't know of anyway to get the locator except to be a dealer. Its internet based, but requires a login (and not all dealer logins allow access to the locator). Not all dealers have the locator either, it is an optional (and expensive) item from Ford. Most dealers have it, but some do not.
Ford dealers use a internal dealer2dealer system. Any salesman of value can search this site for stock in their region and beyond. The trick is finding the good saleman to locate your truck (work for you).
When a dealer only wants to sell me what he has in stock, I walk away and go to a diffrent dealership. I'm not spending 20-30k of my hard earned money for something that isn't exactly what I want. I live in Detroit so fortunately I have a lot of choices of dealerships. I know of some local saleman who went to Cleveland and Chicago to pick up cars for their customers.
One problem a saleman can have is if the other dealership doesn't want to make a dealer to dealer trade.
