Screw Problem, It's in, but no Audiophile, Please Help
Okay wife and I went to pick up our new pickup...lol
Got to the dealership and quickly discovered 2 problems. 1. No chrome running boards. Dealership said ford is shipping without the boards, because they don't have them in stock. 2. No Audiophile sound system. The system in the truck is a 6 disc CD, but it does not have amp, sub and additional speakers. We told them we would take the truck if they could add the audiophile system to our truck at the dealership, if not they could sell it to someone else. They said that was cool with them. Does anyone here know if you can add the audiophile system to an already built, delivered truck. Oh and I must say, it is very very cool looking. I appreciate your comments freddy:banana: |
You did the right thing. This system is suppossed to be great as far as a factory system goes. Mine's suppossed to be here in 6 weeks and I wouldn't accept it without the system. In fact I think you are being more than generous. I'm not sure I would want the dealerships mechanics taking my brand new truck apart and installing what should have already been there.

In the dealerships defense, it was I who screwed up the order. Back in May when I ordered the truck there was not any talk of "audiophile" In fact I ordered my truck the 2nd day it was posted with NO pricing on Fords dealer site.
I ordered the 6 disc thinking it was the premier system. It's my fault, just curious if this can be remedied. If not they will sell it to someone else and I will continue to wait for the right truck for us. Another dealership has the exact truck due in any day which also has my name on it.... They did a dealer order early on, exactly the same as the one I ordered. I asked if I could put my name on it and they obliged. freddy:banana: |
I'm sure that it can be remidied, I believe that the harness is probably already there. I just don't like the idea of having someone (regardless of who it is) take my new trucks dash and interior pieces out/apart before I ever take possesion of it. I'm sure that this is just me... oh heck, I don't know how to explain it. I'm a little anal I guess. :D

Hey Gearhead what is up with that little sign thing in your sig?

I agree as far as being anal. I think I would let them sell it to someone else and wait on getting a "virgin" untouched truck that already has it. I would much rather have it factory installed rather than by a bunch of people who probably have no more idea what to do or how to do it than you would. Most of the dealerships are still waiting on service material from Ford. My dealer closeby just had his orientation class for their mechanics by Ford the other day. Some of the manuals are still coming in and those that have....they are not readily available to everyone. Besides, ask yourself the question if it is worth it to have a truck right now and then have to take it back probably 3 times to have all of this stuff done to it or wait and have one you can keep. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry to hear about your mix up after waiting so long. I don't think it is economically feasable to add the Audiofile at the dealer level. I ordered my Supercrew with the 6 disc and thought also with the Audiofile. When pricing came out in early August, I had my dealer price my truck. There was no Audiofile on my order. He called Ford and fortunately they were able to add it before it's August 28th build. I don't think the mixup is entirely yours as with early orders, no one knew how to properly order it, even Ford.

I wouldn't want to wait another 8-12 weeks to order with your exact options. The steps obviously can be added later. The audiophile can be as well, but it may not be too easy. I suspect there isn't much to it, though. THe HU probably has the plug in the back to support the subwoofer and the speakers are rather simple to replace. It sounds liek you really want it so I think you did the right thing. You must clarify to the dealer that they will install the audiophile at the price difference between it and what you got, instead of letting them order it through the parts department and charging you an arm and a leg.
I haven't heard any system in the 2004 F-150, but I'm sure you can do better for not too much money in the aftermarket. Does it use 6x8 speakers still? You can repalce all 4 speakers for $150 and find a cheap 4-channel amp and I bet it would sound better than the auidophile. |
Thanks for the responses and comments. I agreee with you all.
We are going to wait until the dealership has had time to contact ford to discuss installing an audiophile system at the dealer level. The audiophile has a sub, 300 watt amp and 8 speakers. I would think the wiring is in place and the holes are there for the speakers. And yes APT, we expect them to subtract the cost of the 6 disc cd with the audiophile. If this all works out it should only cost us about $300.00. That I can live with. After we left that dealer we stopped by another one and heard an audiophile system... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no comparison, it absolutely rocks, even the old fart salesman who showed us the truck was damm impressed. I will let you all know what happens. Thanks freddy:banana: |
I thought the Audiophile had 9 speakers, counting the subwoofer. It is awesome! I can not bring myself to turn off the CD's long enough to listen to talk radio anymore.
Just be careful, when I found the Digital System Processing function it was so terrific I about rear ended a trailer in front of me. Have fun, ~~~^~~~ |
