04's not exactly flying off the lots.

At least around here (North Alabama) the 04's are just sitting there. You see the same trucks setting out front day after day. They are definantly for sale. The salesmen say that special orders have been good but sales of stock trucks have been practically non-existent. A good many lookers, but no takers. That's from several dealers. Maybe this will mean incentives before long. How are they doing in other areas?

JFK Ford in Norristown

Has received 2 trucks into stock, one shadow gray XLT that's still in the showroom, one black lariat supercab that got sold days after it arrived. My salesman called me to tell me it came it but by the time I got there to have a look it was gone. I think Ford is gonna go slow getting these out to the lots to try to keep supply in line with demand. Incentives are good for manufacturers in the short run, bad in the long run, I think they're gonna try to control supplies very carefully now to get away from that.

Eharri,

If your talking about Koon's ford in College Park, I picked up the lariat. I posted pics of it in my gallery if you are still interested in seeing it.

I think you'll see more movement sometime after Sep 8th. Most of the other dealers I've talked to are trying to keep them around until after the advertizing blitz thats going to start on the 4th. After a few days, everyone will have shown them off and then begin trying to sell stock units instead of pushing people to order.

eharri3 Aug 29, 2003 10:04 PM

No Koons isnt where I meant

But I think I know exactly where it is as I went to school near there. Sure Ill look at the pics, though I think this goes to support my theory that the world is out to drive me insane by showing me pics of trucks that aren't in my budget yet. Sorry if this do4estn make much sense I think more than half the bottle is gone now.

Hi. First post on this forum; really appreciate the knowledge that is shared here...

IMO - Ford's strategy is pretty sophisticated. They roll out a handfull of the base XL's and XLT regular and Scabs as teasers... and hold back the Lariats until the national media blitz. Your right, these units on the lots now are not moving. Who are the buyers of the new F-150?

There are two kind of buyers; the workers, and the stylers. The workers have a different set of requirements, ' payment, function' - and the stylers have 'ego and function'. The workers aren't buying the released '04's because they get an '03 for 4-6000 less. The stylers arent buying because the XL and XLT are too plain.

Ford has withheld the Lariats and Screws until the media blitz this weekend, when the stylers, who dont care what they owe, or what the payments will be, will swamp the dealers with sales (of the higher profit units). The buyers of the 04's are the current owners of '01's thru '03's. The 'rest of the pack' will follow when their 96's-'00's wear out.

The new Ford is exactly as billed - a great improvement over the previous generation. The numbers will follow, as Ford predicts.

I don't know about all areas, but around here I'd say the majority of the trucks are FX4's. I've seen mostly FX4's and Lariats pretty well loaded. I did some playing on the locator and there were more $36K trucks than normal $32K (XLT S/C 4x4) trucks. Even though the S/C XLT should be the sales leader by a wide margin.

Welcome to the site. You forgot a catagory of people. The worker/stylers, those of us who work hard with our trucks yet also want the nicest of trucks.I put a painters cloth over my seats while at work but on the weekend or on certain week nights I dust off my leather and style it to the max.

The new truck will sell, when Ford lets the advertisers go the trucks will move.

Touche', Nick - I'm more in the middle, like you - except I often forget the cloth protectors... and spend a lot more time cleaning up my 01 Screw Lariat. :D

Yes, I'm like you. But, that is where the leather seats come in handy. Man they are really easy to keep clean. Just wipe down and go.

BTW, keep a box of baby wipes around. They aren't just for baby bottoms anymore. They have got to be the best think for nasty hands in the field. Even better than Go-jo, Orange Clean and the rest. Even on grease. Just wipe and trash. Seats, steering wheel, yourself.

Mecheng... Come to think about it - we're, by definition, both 'stylers'... hehehe

My dealership, I mean Stealership has, correction, had a bunch of SuperCabs and they were going fast. There were people all over the ones they had left!

Next weekend the average joe is going to be exposed to the new F-150. Most people I know and work with don't even though they redesigned it. The commercials on Fordtruckworld that are coming out next weekend will see to it everyone knows. I had to drag 4 people from work to the local dealer while we were supposed to be fixing planes to prove they redesigned it.

It's worth dragging people for! I have had to do that countless times in the last week or so! :rocker:
