Question P1519 Code - '03 F150 4.2 V6

Check engine light OBD code is showing P1519. I believe it's the Inlet Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Stuck Closed). The engine starts, idles and runs fine. Could it be a faulty sensor? Guy at oreillys recommended using sea foam to loosen the stuck valve, but not I'm not sure how to use it or if I should even try if the engine seems to be running fine. Any suggestions? Where is the IMRC located?

The IMRC is under the intake manifold. I would NOT use Seafoam.

If it is stuck closed, the only difference you will notice is less power over 3000 rpm. It's like the old days of 4 barrel carburetors, where it runs on 2 barrels until you floor it.

If you do decide to try to fix it, you should remove the intake manifold, and get new gaskets and isolator bolts to reinstall it, this is a high failure item on the 4.2 with plastic manifold.

Possible causes

  • Faulty Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator
  • Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) harness is open or shorted
  • Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) circuit poor electrical connection
  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

There are actuators that operate the rods.
You have to look at bank 2 for a fault.
Forget the Sea Foam, it won't do anything for the mechanical operation.
The term 'stuck' is it doesn't open, no matter the cause.

Ok, thanks for the great responses! Accompanying that code was something that involved my fuel system, in which one of the recommendations was to replace the gas cap (which I had done 2 or so years ago). I swapped it with a new one, and after a few times driving, the check engine light has cleared itself. Is there any chance the 2 were related?

And thanks for the word of warning about the sea foam. I plan to return it ASAP!

Take a guess whether a gas cap and an intake runner control function have anything in common!

Clear all codes, if the CEL doesn't come back on you fixed it.
