Trip odometer reset button

Hi has anyone ever had the issue where there was no tension on the trip reset button on the 2002 f150 which means the odometer displays the whole time and can’t be switched back and forth? If so what could be done?

You will have to take the cluster out and then take the cluster apart to see what occurred.

This.

My button is the mechanical type that rolls the trip meter back to zero, the mechanism that makes the numbers roll back is dirty, after 20 years, so the reset operation can be very tedious at times. When you take the cluster out, PAY ATTENTION TO THE STRING THAT MOVES THE GEAR SELECT INDICATOR.

What year? 97/98 had mechanical odometers, 99+ were electronic.

He said he has a 2002. So it is going to be electronic.

Thanks for the replies, I will see if I want to invest time into that as it doesn't really affect anything at the moment. I took my dash apart on my ranger to replace bulbs and it wasn't too difficult just time consuming.
