Both transmissions are from identical trucks except one is a 98 and the other is a 99...
What is the difference in the transmissions and what would I need to do to the 99 F150 transmission to make it work in my 98 F150???

When I was a member of the MarkVIII forum, I read on that forum that the F150 4R70W got some upgrades in 99 that made them more durable. I don't remember the specifics.

 

Electronics are different. 97 and 98 use a speedometer gear, 99 and later use an electronic sensor.

 

Yup, glc is spot on. 99 was the transition year even for the gauge cluster over being mechanical going to electronic.

 

Wonder if the sun gear broke.
